The Bay Tree is steeped in history and awash with character, from the foundations of its mellow stone walls - clad with pinkish-purple wisteria blooms - to its wooden beam rafters. Oak-panelled public rooms, bare stone walls and original stone fireplaces, including an inglenook fireplace, provide a textured canvas upon which rich fabrics, woven tapestries and antiques have been laid down with exquisite flair. For your relaxation, you can select a good book from the hotel library, sink back into a comfortable chair and allow the stresses of everyday life to gradually seep away in front of a roaring log fire. Everything about the hotel was first class; the staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was superb and the food was excellent. This was to be a special week-end break for my wife on her ??birthday and I was therefore very keen to make it a memorable time - I am pleased to say that the standard of the Bay Tree and its staff ensured we had the most wonderful time. Can't wait to return.

Great ambience, lovely gardens, pity about the weather!. Best breakfast table I have seen. sleep. very comfortable clean hotel, very good selection at the breakfast buffet table and good choice for cooked breakfast. Main restaraunt fully booked for evening meal but we had a very good bar meal with excellent service and high quality of food. Meals were excellent. Garden and Dining Room delightful. Other public rooms gave a pleasant ambience.The Hotel was comfartable, clean and very quite, just what we needed. Quiet. Helpful staff, good food. No - everything was top class. Same noise as made by the fan outside reception ,although that was distant from our bedroom. One of 2 bulbs for 2 lamps didn't work. I suppose it's not appropriatefor this kind of hotels. Not sure about the comfort of the bed.top room a bit cold. Prices of the drinks in the bar are ridiculous !. No attachment for shower head to wall in bath. music in breakfast room. My bill was correct, but I did ask for explanation. The response was very abrupt and I felt that I should not have asked. The desk staff lacked charm. There was a problem with the hot water in our room on the first evening. This was dealt with efficiently and the manager was concerned and he checked later that we were happy. The service in the resaturant was very slow for some unexplained reason the second night of our stay.We had to change rooms because water came through the ceiling. Room was cold and there were a number of failed light bulbs. Two calls needed to get a working bedside light.

The restaurant in the Bay Tree Hotel has gained one AA rosette for the quality of its British cuisine and service. The walls are hung with tapestries and limited edition 'Flint' watercolors. Burford is off the A40, 22 miles form Oxford and 20 miles from Cheltenham. Junction 8 on the M40 is 26 miles away.

The Bay Tree Hotel is situated on Sheep Street, which is just off Burford High Street. When driving down the High Street, take the first left by the Tolsey Museum; the hotel is 200 yards further along on the right-hand side. When driving up the High Street, Sheep Street is the 2nd turning on the right-hand side.

There is an ample car park situated at the end of the driveway between the hotel buildings. Reception located by either the main entrance on Sheep Street or the first doorway on the left when coming down the driveway.

By Train:
The nearest station is Charlbury, which is 8 miles away. Direct trains from London Paddington take approximately one hour. Taxis are normally available at the station.
