The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had in a hotel. The provision of fresh coffee and fruit in the rooms was a wonderful idea. I have already booked for my next trip top Bristol. Spent a couple of hours in town, then back to my comfortable my room. Pleasant breakfast then on to a one-day Lapidus conference across the suspension bridge which I easily walked to.

I would have been very happy if I could have used the internet in the room.the walls in the room could do with a lick of paint. the only thing i can say it looked tired and needs a good decorate and referb but the kept it clean and did there best.No restaurant facility in evening.advised needed to reserve a table atsister hotel 50 yds away which I declined. The shower in the shared bathroom was not as clean as it could have been, although the rest was fine. The room was a little shabby, but comfortable, adequately furnished and clean. There is no lift, which would make it difficult for disabled guests, but the staff did offer help with carrying bags upstairs.Not really a dislike but it will be good when they update the decor - the bedrooms and bathrooms are definitely in need of a refurb. Distance to the shower. some parts a bit shabby, but this is expected in a building of this age. this was our second time at the hotel and we shall come again. The room we stayed in was freshly painted and the smell of paint was ratehr overwhelming. I stayed in non on suite room but the shared shower was broken. There were no smoking rooms on offer, but this was a minor inconveniencerather than a problem.My room was overheated - the radiator in the bathroom was stuck on maximum with the heat radiating into the main room, while the radiator in the bedroom would not come on at all. At one point I needed to have the window open (in mid winter!). asked the night staff for extra milk for the room but although they said they would bring some they never arrived so a bit disappointed. My room was noisy. Loud snores from next room. Staff a bit busy at breakfast. The decor is a bit tired and battered looking.Parking. tired decor and soft furnishings.The room was too cold. They switched it on during the evening but that was all. Too cold again during the night. Also, there is no wifi. I suggest staying in the Clifton hotel, which is just next there, they have a free wifi and are only a little bit more expensive. noise in room as mentioned above. Parking. Was woken at 5.30am by staff noise at back of hotel. Bathroom could do with updating.I did not like having to pay extra for parking. The fact that the room was not ensuite seems antiquated. The room was a little noisy as it was right next to the breakfast room, it was also a little chilly until we got a heater from reception. Because I was on the main road I was disturbed by the traffic.

- From M5: exit the M5 at junction 19 (Gordano Services) and follow heritage signs to the Clifton Suspension Bridge (toll bridge).
- Go over the suspension bridge (you will need 50p in silver - no 5ps) and carry straight on until reaching a mini roundabout.
- Turn right at the roundabout onto Clifton Down road and take the 2nd left onto Merchants road.
- Follow the road around Victoria Square and down Queens road.
- At the double roundabout take the 2nd left into St Paul's road. You will find the Washington Hotel 200 metres to your right.

From the airport:
- Depart on Northside Road and turn right.
- Continue along North Side Road and take the 1st exit at roundabout.
- Take the 1st exit at roundabout onto the A38, then turn left onto the A3029, Winberstoke Road.
- Turn left onto A370 (Brunel Way) and continue straight ahead onto the A3029 (Bristol Gate) and bear right onto the A4 (Hotwell Road).
- Turn left onto Clifton Vale, then turn right onto Goldney Avenue.
- Bear right onto Lower Clifton Hill and turn left onto Clifton Rd.
