The room was lovely, we could see the sea from our balcony. Something a lot of hotel rooms don't have is decent light to read by, this room had good lighting over the couch area, and good bedside lamps. There were plenty of options for our evening meal, we chose to walk around the block to a local restaurant rather than dine in. It was nice to have the options available. We loved being on the beach and hearing and watching the waves roll in. Loved seeing the surfers. Loved walking along the beach and the access to the warm saltwater pool. Had a mini kitchen in our room so one visit to the Supermarket let us eat breakfast and lunch on our balcony.
all reviews » We loved the location of Hotel St Clair. The beach was fantastic and a real find - we didn't realise there were white sand beaches in Dunedin. We also loved our accommoation - light and airy with a very comfortable bed and a lovely view. Location, location, location. Modern. Comfortable clean spacious rooms. Pier 24 Restaurant attached was fantastic!!! We absolutely LOVED our time at Hotel St Clair. It was the perfect R&R!. The lovely situation and attractive low rise design plus excellent restaurent on site. The restaurent staff were very friendly all staff helpful and welcoming. We both absolutely loved our stay. The room was just perfect and extremely clean. On of the best Hotels we have ever stayed at. Nice and quiet. Beautiful position right on beachfront with the sound of the waves and the accessibility of being able to leave the door open, through the night. Having restaurant on site. Apartment spacious and catered for our family (2 separate rooms). Beach views. Balconies. Discounted price off peak. This boutique hotel is very cosy and elegant. It has one of the best locations and views in Dunedin. Absolutely loved my stay over there. Sea view balcony, good sound system, they even have built-in speakers in the bathroom. Decent restaurants at door step. The staff were fantastic and the room was amazing, the bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. Great room layout with useable kitchenette. We thought the toilet was a little too close to the shower wall. We thought meals were a bit expensive but the food was very good but in retrospective probably no more than elsewhere in NZ. Everything in NZ is expensive compared with the US. nothing!. Nothing. Master bedroom small. Could have done with more crockery and cutlery. Not a convenient location for travelers without car. Nothing! Everything was amazing. I'd be being picky to mention anything I didn't like. It was all very good!. I changed the booking prior to arrival and the receptionist who took the alteration did nothing about it. She checked us in, and I pointed out the error and she still did nothing about it. Not sure whether there were any available rooms on absolute beachfront (looked like there were) weren't offered an upgrade to straight onto the beach. It was all good. Had a little problem with the toilet but not enough to cause any proper hassle. There was an obvious buzzing / whining from the power board/fuse board and the complimentary tea/coffee/biscuits was a little bare,eg 1 pkt biscuits between 2 people. Nothing. black marks on sheets.. Car parking underground needs to be more extensive. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable. I could only stay one night. We were in a beach front executive room, which was disappointingly small, especially the bathroom, when compared to the standard room my son and his wife were given. The facilities in that room were far superior. The view alone does not account for the difference in price especially given the much smaller facilities. for that price little extras would be nice like a chocolate on the pillow also a spa in the hotel would have added an extra option. Nothing. Not very good at providing local information - no city maps available . the price i was charged for my bloody marys.....$18.00 each....this isn't a cocktail, hence I was charged $36.00....Extreme rip off.....and we had our gas siphoned from our car in the hotels carpark.....not so good. The weather :-). Nothing all good. The entry/exit door moved in the wind. I had to jam a magazine in there to stop the continual movement. 10am checkout on a Sunday. The hotel charged us for a special request without notifying us there would be a charge. Nect time just notify your customers before you charge them for something. We didn't appreciate the fact that there was a torn up garden outside our room and weren't made aware when we booked. The pillows are too big, however they do offer various types, we were too tired and didn't bother. The couch was not comfortable it pushed you off instead of hugged you in. The cramped room, limited furniture and very basic bathroom facilities- not at all ,luxurious as promoted. More like a hospital than a hotel.
