The hotel is well located, very close to the main train station and the Gion district, the beautiful and traditional part of Kyoto.
The rooms are really stunning, with a wonderful fusion of traditional and modern Japanese design. The rooms are also very large (especially for Japanese standards) and we felt instantly relaxed upon arrival.

The rooms at Kanra are visually beautiful. The design is typically Japanese and the management have put a lot of thought and money into the aesthetics and decor. They make beautiful use of hidden lighting to give the room subtely and sophistication. The size of the room is enormous by any standard, let alone Japanese, and the bed is separated from the tatami mat TV room by a bamboo screen. The bed is so comfortable and the pillows just right.

The location is excellent, just 5+ mins walk from the main Kyoto station. Price is reasonable for the service and facilities. Rooms are clean and fully equipped. Staff served tea to us every day when we came back to the ryokan. They have a free cultural night event every night run by volunteer staff. They are so friendly and it was really nice learning about their lives in Kyoto, as well as pick up some origami/calligraphy writing. Highly recommended!

Hotel location is absolutely perfect, in pedestrianized Rokkaku-dori, just off the busy Kawaramachi-dori, with hotel being well shielded from traffic by a large UniQlo shop. The room was excellent, not too small, clean and nicely decorated. A beautiful an relaxing place to stay, good for holidays and for a business trip.
