Excellent location and beautiful rooms and establishment. Wonderful people at the desk and a charming city. The room was small, but very clean and modern. It was central to everything and a short walk to the boats for day trips to the islands and swimming. I would highly recommend the Pousada Do Ouro.

Our pousada (or guest house) was beautiful. At first we were a bit worried as the cab dropped us off down this dark street that looked a bit scary -- but then when we open the door to the pousada it was an amazing oasis of lush vegetation, orchids, squirrel monkeys and humming birds. It was almost like a small village with lots of buildings for breakfast, TV rooms, pool and sitting areas. The owners had a wonderful collection of paintings, sculptures and lots of folk art.

The old charm. The building has a lot of history and it has been decorated with mostly family furniture and objects. Everything is in keeping with the period in which the house and the town was built in. However it does not feel like a museum. The staff were excellent. Very experienced, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
