  I particularly liked the friendliness of the staff that dealt with us, as they were very welcoming and helpful, plus the overall cleanliness and quality of the hotel. I - The staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We did find the pillows in the bedroom a bit hard, but i'm sure the staff would have changed them if we had mentioned it.   The building itself was old and had lots of character. The bedroom felt like going back in time, in a good way. I do not agree with the reviews that say that it needs updating or that the decor is 'tired'. It's a period property. I liked very much too that there wasn't muzak being played during breakfast. The food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced, and the service excellent. We had to kill some time waiting for hire car and other commitments - the staff were quite happy for us to do this in the lounge / bar area and were helpful and friendly throughout.
