Everything about the hotel was good to excellent but the front desk staff, Irini and Toula were outstanding. They were very friendly and provided helpful info on how to best spend our siteseeing time on Crete and in Heraklion. Got an upgrade to a great room on the 5th floor...very comfortable, quiet, well designed, huge bathroom... I suspect not all the rooms are this great. The hotel location is good, though the neighborhood is not charming.

And, most importantly, the bed was comfortable!. Friendly, helpful staff, available to answer questions. Good breakfast at hotel. Location close to port. The staff were very friendly and helpfull, even though we were only there for one night. We arrived very late and yet were well directed to a local taverna for a very nice meal and the young lady on reception managed to easily arrange car hire for the next morning. Perfect location, very close to the port and bus station, andpractically in the city centre. Staff were extremely helpful in allqueries. I cannot comment on breakfast as we did not try it, with thebougatsa cafes in town I wouldn't have any other breakfast.My stay at the Kastro Hotel was really very good. Many thanks to all staff. As we have not been to Heraklion before wewere thankfull for the directions to the hotel as found on thewebsite and also the signposts from the seafront to the hotel werevery very helpfull. plentiful and varied breakfast; provision of soap gel; fridge in room, though it did not get very cool; central position, though it entailed noise of aircraft taking off; firm mattress though this may not suit some. Clean, centrally-located hotel with friendly and accommodating staff. Broadband didnt work in the room when we were there and the rooms are small.I had to pay twice for the safe as the reception did't register my first payment. The bed is hard and the shower space does not have a lot of elbow room.Unreliable information from reception desk about ferry schedules. misleading information about car parking. There were steps (7? 8?) from the street to reach the recption. Not very convenient with a heavy suitcase. Also there was not much point to open the window, the view over the building site opposite was not very attractive. For the first night we got a room on the 5th floor. The room space and the bathroom was very small and though the room was marked non smoking, the smoke odor and stale air in the room was unbearble. Maria gave us a nice room on the 4th floor. Avoid a room on the 5th floor..The bathroom did not smell good. There was something wrong with the drainage which you noticed upon entering the room. a bit expensive. The walls were thin, too much outside noise starting very early in the morning. Rather difficult to find.Very shabby streets surrounding.
