  My husband and I are divorced, but we take our kids 9&12 on family vacations. We had adjoining rooms with huge screened in porches on the ground level. The view was incredible, but private. We had a direct walk out to the beach. We went kayaking, boogie boarding and shelling...all of which are right there. The Inn is old, historic, quaint... vad folk säger » , warm- most of it has been remodeled but it's definitely a part of Sanibel history. It's is not a huge commercial resort and we especially liked that - We loved the Island: in fact we wished we could live their as we liked it so much. "Not your typical people:" everyone was friendly and happy, inviting (no in your face type people or look at me, or us - not showy - quite private and inviting atmosphere (completely unlike the Florida Keys, which I have great disdain for, except its beauty). People take pride in caring for this island and it shows. Everything is clean. Walk ways and bike paths galore. We really got to enjoy "Gods" beauty that he

  The staff was more than helpful, the cottage was located just a short walk from the beach. Beach area was clean, and not overcrowded. Felt extremely safe with the walk to and from the beach being that it was just us three ladies.   The rooms are large and clean. The beach is steps away from your room and the view is beyond compare. The Shalimar staff are friendly and welcoming and the grounds and facilities are perfectly maintained. I can count on a quiet and relaxed vacation when I stay at the Shalimar.   It was a great location. The room and bathroom were updated which was great. The facility including the room was very clean. We live in South Florida but are originally from Philly and Boston and it reminded us of the Northeast. The whole facility gave us a welcoming, cozy and warm feeling. Gerry in the Office was also very friendly and helpful - The proximity to the beach was key for me. Our room overlooked a pool area with a clear view of the water and sunsets beyond. It was lovely. The hotel was built in the 1960s; however, it has been updated very adequately. I wanted to stay in a place with some history, and I got exactly that! It was delightful. There were clearly people there who had been visiting for years!

  Location was good - close (within walking distance) to the beach. Facilities were more than adequate - very nicely appointed and clean.
