Everything.
The meet and greet on arrival from bar staff initially to manager who took us to the suite (which was, to put it mildly, spacious and well appointed), and explained about parking. The service in the bar and restaurant was v professional and attentive without being overbearing. Evening meal was pretty awesome, porterhouse steak melting off the bone!! The bar/restaurant decor and the alfresco dining area was much to our liking. And finally breakfast had a good range of options. Will b. alla recensioner »
I loved my stay the suite was lovely ,view on to the street below ,staff very friendly ,food very good . Great breakfast best yogurt after 3 weeks travelling , Bathroom excellent. The lounge area of the suite is original Tudor black beams and very uneven floors it was great . I arrived with a very sore knee they helped out by getting ice and drinks brought to our room thank you so much . Also a nice touch freshly made biscuits and brownies left with the coffee making .
Room was great with view of the street below and the bathroom was modern with a walk in shower etc. Really it was the little things that made our stay special, the cake and brownies, the varied tea and coffee facilities, three boxes of paper hankies placed around the room, dressing gowns in the wardrobe. The breakfast's where the best we had tasted anywhere they had obviously used quality produce.
The staff were outstanding and very helpful. The food was excellent (both dinner and breakfast). The waiter that we had at dinner (Will) was particularly good. The Japanese lady who served us in the morning (did not get her name) was also incredibly helpful/friendly. The cocktails were amongst the best I have tasted.
Great setting in the older part of town. Very comfortable room. It was a bonus to have ground coffee and fresh milk, not to mention the freshly baked brownies and biscuits which appeared on both of the days we stayed. It's also very useful to have a fridge in the room. There was a good, varied breakfast menu.
Staff very helpful, friendly and polite.
Rooms very comfortable - well appointed and olde worlde atmospheric.
We were upgraded at no additional cost!!
Restaurant superb. Added bonus eating al fresco in baking July weather. Excellent breakfast.
A real find!!.
Very friendly and attentive staff without being overbearing. Great atmosphere, tasty, simply good that really showed off the high quality ingredients. Well appointed rooms, fresh milk in the fridge and homemade treats instead of generic biscuits. Comfy bed.
All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, both evening meal and full English in the morning. The business is thriving, busy all day and into early hours. However as our room was at the top, it was surprisingly quiet.
A truly fabulous hotel, staff friendly and with the most delightful welcoming home made brownies/flapjacks in our room. We ate in the restaurant which was excellent and breakfast was fantastic...so much choice and would highly reccommend.
All the staff were friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent and cooked well and served perfectly for breakfast and of an evening. The rooms were always very clean and maintained well.
Very friendly staff, excellent service, very clean comfortable room with a lot of little extras that made our stay even more enjoyable. This has been one of the best short breaks that we have had for several years.
very friendly staff, good comfy room, excellent bathroom with all you could need in it. No bath but a big walk in shower. Best breakfast i have tasted in a hotel.Dined in the restaurant and the food was top notch.
Although they were refurnishing the restaurant, I could stay in the
hotel. The inconvenience was largely compensated by the upgraded room,
bottle of Prosecco and good breakfasts in other nearby hotels.
Wonderful hotel in a great location, excellent friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. We've stayed here three times and look forward to our next visit. Great food - wonderful breakfast.
Ancient building brought up to date but still with period features; superb atmosphere in the historic heart of Shrewsbury. Excellent cooked breakfast, though very slow to appear.
Despite the name, Mad Jacks was a sane choice: quiet by bedtime, well appointed (we had the suite), and centrally located. Becky produced a lovely full English breakfast.
The staff were very friendly and helpful
The restaurant offers good value meals
The enclosed courtyard makes the restaurant area much nicer and available year round.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Good location although parking is a little difficult and expensive. Great restaurant. Christian and Oliver most helpful.
Friendly welcoming staff. Large suite and great bathroom.
Evening meal and breakfast both great quality. Great place to stay for a much needed break.
Comfort, excellent food. Well looked after, polite friendly staff, helpful, comfortable room with all provided. Modern bathroom. Will go again!!.
Beautiful comfortable room with all the little extras. Very friendly staff who willingly engaged in conversation with you. Fantastic location.
The room had old worldly charm, was spacious and very comfortable.
The welcome of assorted cake was a delicious and unexpected surprise.
Great food available, great staff welcoming and efficient. Our room was super. Easy walk to all shops and amenities in Shrewsbury.

Room very clean and spacious and everything you need as a traveller.
Excellent value and location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice big room and chefs homemade nibbles much appreciated.
A very comfortable suite, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, and spacious suite (albeit with some very curved floors).
Nothing to much trouble staff friendly and very welcoming room comfortable excellent value will stay again.

Friendly staff
central location
nice bathroom.
Staff were great,food very good.
Location was good as were the cocktails in the bar below. Selection of cakes in room was a nice touch. I wouldn't give it 5 stars though.
Breakfast was good aswell.
This applies generally to city centre establishments.
Reviews that have a go about noise impinging on accomodation from the street outside and bar/restaurant. Read the description first before booking, its not rocket science. !!.
Nothing really it was a little noisy from the bar but that is to be expected .
We liked everything.
The bedroom was comfortable but and the bathroom was very good. But the windows were very dirty and gave the room an overall grubby feel.
A rather steep flight of stairs leading to the room and the lack of parking. Having said that, we would certainly go back again.
On very hot nights when window is open traffic noise may keep light sleepers awake - take ear plugs (I slept like a log but my husband was woken on occasion).
The street outside was noisy during the night but didn't stop us having a great time.
The only slight down side was the noise of (local craze) town boys with big exhausts driving round in circles of an evening, revving their appreciation at passing ladies! We found it entertaining but I can imagine it would annoy some.
Nothing.
There is nothing not too like with this establishment.......just a pity there is no closer parking but would still not prevent me from staying again.
When we stayed the weather was very warm so we kept the window open. There was traffic noise from early morning as the hotel sits on a busy road so might not suit anyone who is a light sleeper.
No possibilities to park at the hotel.
Car parking.
Traffic noise but the room made up for it.
Decor could do with a lick of paint, but don't let that put u off!.
Just a little bit noisy as the room is above the bar area but you shouldn't stay in a City centre if you want total peace and quiet.
That I was only staying one night and did not partake of a meal in the restaurant.
Breakfast was later than a week day. Starting at 9.00 I had to rush and check out for a 10.00 meeting. The breakfast service could have been quicker.
Is a working cafe/bar so noisy until around 1.00 a.m. when the staff leave so perhaps not for anyone wanting an early night!.
Non complains.
For the money there was nothing to dislike. the room we had could afford a higher room rate with a bigger bed and a bit of a make over but perfectly adequate as it was.
No parking at the place. But the NCP car park nearby was fine.
The cake left in the room was too empting after a few beers at 1am in
the morning.
The lack of parking lets this hotel down.
EXTREMELY rude not to inform us the name had changed after we booked the room. We drove around the city one way system three times looking for Mad Jacks, how dare you treat your guests like this. No parking, NCP car park at the bottom of the hill so had horrendous back pain after hauling suitcase up the hill. Was extremely frustrated by the time we finally got checked in. Process was so time consuming We had no time left to explore the city before meeting people for dinner.
They need to be better informed about the nearby parking and have a
printed guide. Ncp is a crap option especially over night.
No glasses in room for mini bar.
There was no one there when we checked out, we weren't advised what time breakfast was.
This may sound petty but the breakfast plate was cold.
Noise from bar below room.
weather.
A bit noisy at night until bar closed.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Carpet very badly stained and very dull decor. No staff on the premises at night car park a distance away.
the suite we stayed in was large but above busy road with loading and unloading below,we had very little sleep!.
The Outlook from our room was awful, we couldn't open the window as there was an industrial extraction fan which pumped out hot kitchen smells.
The bed was awful, neither of us got a good nights sleep ....
