  We stayed two nights in September 2013 at the Traders Hotel in Penang. The hotel is part of the Shangri-la group and used to be called the Shangri-la Inn. It’s not a brand new property but from what we could tell it is still in a very well-maintained condition. We chose Traders as it was close to the bus terminal and shops which was very convenient. We never used taxis as the bus system there is exceelent so it's easy to get around the main sites by bus at very cheap prices.   The hotel was fantastic, staff exceptional and facilities beautiful. A great spot in the city of Georgetown and lots of different options at the one hotel for room types from conventional rooms to 2 bed apartments.   Great location - it was a few blocks away from Gurney drive. Palaquinn is also in the area of very good food! Such as the Pulau Tikus market, ans hokkien mee and mee goreng. Staff (Jennifer) was very warm and enthusiastic, she pointed out to me the nearby attractions and the places for good food. It was very spacious - with my own living room, balcony, bedroom ans open air bathroom, I felt like I had the whole house to myself. Great privac - The heritage house is very pretty, décoration inside is tasteful and original. Location is not in the historical centre but a 10min bus ride leads there easily, safely and cheaply until late at night. More over, staff is super friendly, super helpful and super sweet.

  I was very grateful for the excellent English ability of the staff. I was overjoyed with the ease and simplicity of getting a tourist visa for Thailand. Every staff member was very friendly. - The stuff was very helpful and friendly, I would stay there again if I return. The rooms are big and comfortable and I recommend this hotel.

The food served for the breakfast are tasty, and I have to say the fresh juice they prepared for the guests everyday are nice and sweet.   I can not fault the staff at Moon Tree. Upon arrival Dickie ensured that we were given a map of the local area where local hawker places and restaurants were pointed out as well as attractions around Georgetown. The accommodation has a lovely feel to it and i really enjoyed my stay here, Dickie made us feel very welcome. The place itself i - I found moon trees to be an excellent value for money alternative to hotel stays. Owner ,Dickie was extremely helpful and congenial ,as well as making supberb coffee. Guesthouse has a wonderful homely vibe and is in a great location in the heart of the heritage area of George Town. Building is an authentic Chinese shop front and retains its old town appeal with basic fittings and amenities but everything works and is clean and tidy. Would recommend guesthouse to solo travellers or couples.
