Ok, this is going to be a hard review to get right. The hotel is not
swanky, there's no swimming pool or room service, and if you had a
cat to swing in the room it would have to be a very small cat indeed.
The pillows are awfull and theres no aircon. But......we loved it. There
are a lot more better looking hotels in Bergerac but there is something
about this one that just makes you love it. Its above a typical french
bar for starters. Go in anytime and you are surrounded by locals who

The B+B is above a very typical, very french tabac shop / bar (which closes at 7.30pm) and both are run by the non-English speaking French couple. I found them really friendly and helpful and it was so nice staying somewhere very local. It was the cheapest place I found to stay in Bergerac and it was very basic. But it was clean, quiet, had a great shower, good free wifi and only 5 minute walk from the historic centre. What more do you need?.
Cheap and cheerful. I chose it particularly because it was in the centre and above a typical French tavern. I could always go downstairs for a chat and a beer. Great to wake up in the morning and see locals having their first beer in the sun at 9 am. I have lived in France and moved to Brussels, so it was a nice re-experience of French hospitality. Of course if you do not like staying above a tavern, then it is not to your taste.
I liked the friendly welcome, good breakfast, overall cleanliness, strong hot shower, the bed, the bar downstairs, the free wifi, the location near the cathedral and the old town, all at a very good price.

It felt authentic, above the bar-tabac. Rooms were very clean, and cottagey quaint.
Location was great - just 2 mins to to the old town; a patisserie and supermarket (Casino) within 100 metres; walking distance to the rail station.
Wifi good (after owners fixed it, and belatedly told me), and a good feel to the downstairs bar. Great value - worth it for a day or two.
The proprietors were very nice, kept our luggage safe past check out time.
Shower worked well, bathroom was good.
Side street windows kept fresh air coming in nicely even though it was raining, no a/c, but wasn't hot while we were there.
Within walking distance, some lovely restaurants about 6 blocks away.

The pillows, were, well rubbish!.
You just have to accept that your room will not be made up or cleaned during your stay. For the price, who can complain; but after 3 days I would have expected clean towels and some cleaning.
I would have liked air conditioning, although the fan worked well.

you can smoke in spain and smell old smoke in the room.
1. Maintenance sorely needed - lights not working, dodgy lock that took ages to get key in and out of, shower hook gone. Heater not working.
2. Lack of service! Despite language barrier (and I tried hard in my pidgin french), there was a general complacency and lack of interest that is ...so french. And therefore no breakfast on Sunday. Of course.
Didn't like smell of room. Supposed to be non-smoking but ash tray in room.
Room was tiny, NO frills decorating. Even a touch of color would have been more pleasant.
Only two pillows, would have liked another one.
Very basic accommodation, over priced breakfast - €5.00 for a croissant ( no butter ), one cup of coffee and one glass of Orange.
