  Hotel owners were very helpful and made charming hosts. This served as a good base for exploring Alsace country area with very easy access to Colmar. Substantial car park at rear of hotel.   Very convenient for a family traveling with young children, both parents and a grandparent. There was enough space in the 2 bd apartment for all of us, plus having the WC separate from the tub worked very well. The location was great, very close to Colmar which was our destination. The restaurant had a wonderful ambience and the food was superb.   L'Abbaye d'Alspach, a former 11th century convent, had a wonderful, chateau-like archi-tecture. Situated towards the southern end of the Routes des Vins, it was well-located for touring the very worthwhile and enjoyable Ecomusee d'Alsace, the Routes des Vins, Colmar and Strasbourg. Clean, well decorated, modern and tasteful in the room, but the hotel is an old abby. Best to stay here and eat at Swendi as the abby doesnt offer evening meals unfortunately. Recently renovated; with taste, respecting the character and charm of the old house; but not compromising on modern amenities (bathroom, heating / air-con, wireless).   We liked the very comfortable self-contained facilities, the friendly welcome from the owners, the peace and quiet overlooking fields of vines, and the short walk to the village & restaurants. We were unsure of the exact location and having phoned for directions the owner came out on his bicycle to meet and guide us to the premises. The room overlooks the couples beautiful vineyard where they will also serve you breakfast.
