The design very tasteful, carefully renovated from an old Chinese-style building, rooms spacious and comfortable, bath water pressure great. We particularly loved the food there.   Very nice hotel with stylish Chinese design and good staff. Service was good and they spoke good English in reception. No breakfast in hotel but good deal with nearby Cafe China. Well situated near River Li where the boat from Guilin stops.   We had booked 2 nights in a hotel in town (reviewed as quiet one) and 2 nights at Village Retreat and we wish we had spent all our days here! So much nicer to trade the awful Chinese disco sounds and scooter alarms in the morning for the ballads of birds and frogs, the perfect place to relax after all the cities! We had one of the chalets and it was great to have a big space to group and hang out in during our down time. The staff was wonderful and were happy to help us with whatever we needed. They booked taxis and shuttles, helped us with reservations, and were all fluent in English.   It was very clean and comfortable! It was its money worth! - I like the receptionist staf. They can speak english well and they are very helpfull, especially for booking the tour at the very late night, and we can book a massage from this hotel, and the massage was great! You should try it!
