  The staff at Gion Maifukan could not have done enough to help us. They were attentive without being intrusive and after the first night moved us to a bigger room to accommodate the four of us.   We liked the Japanese traditional accommodations. The staff was very helpful with directions and even called our taxi driver when my son left his watch in the room when we had already checked out. The tatami sleepers for 5 was fun for our family although slightly uncomfortable at first. Although for smaller kids it might be too much of a walk. - Sleep well, and the equipment is fine at this hotel. They will write your name in front of the hotel, that makes me feel good.   Japanese style home stay :) clean room and friendly staff. although location is far from city, there is direct JR Bus from Kyoto station to the place. take about 40 mins though. fyi for other traveler as if take JR bus from Kyoto station, alight at Takahanacho stop then walk back about 100m then cross the other side of road. will find easily. staf... wat mensen zeggen » f speak little english and friendly. enjoy my stay :) - Owner and staffs are so friendly. I think he waited for our coming after I confirmed arrival time because while we were walking to find Ryokan and almost getting lost, he called us from in front of Ryokan. I was so impressed. I got a big clean room with garden view and not close to the street so it was quite and peaceful. This room is what I think when stay in ryokan. Love it.

  We had a very japanise style room. Very luxurious with privated garden. The bathroom was a dream. May be the best I´ve ever been. I can highly recommend it if you want a relaxing and typical japanise experience. A true ryokan.
