This unique 15th-century inn is less than a mile from the centre of Shepton Mallet. It offers an extensive menu and cosy log fires just 15 minutes’ drive from Glastonbury. All of the relaxing, warmly furnished rooms at The Dusthole are spacious and airy, and some of the bathrooms have 400-year-old stone floors. All bedrooms feature TVs and DVD players. The restaurant at The Dusthole features an wide-ranging menu from traditional English dishes to far Eastern specialities. Guests can also enjoy the traditional Sunday carvery. Guests can relax in the garden and patio area, and there is a traditional log fire inside the building. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas, and free private parking is possible on site. Located just off the A37, the inn is 15 miles from Cheddar Gorge. Longleat Safari Park is a 25-minute drive away.

Having normally called reviewers massive saddos looks like I'm becoming one of them, but I felt this place needed a helping hand from the "Oooh light coming through the door" "Ooohcreaky floorboard" bellends that have previously reviewed. It's a 15th Century inn, not a ruddy 2008 built Mercure. Personally my stay was great, food was hearty pub scram, pies, mash, lamb shank that kind of thing. Wine menu was extensive with varied pricing and I'd hazard a guess that the few ales weren't three bad.

The Dusthole was ideal in that it was within the budget I had been given for bed, breakfast and evening meal (a meagre £75 per night). The food was of a high standard, all locally sourced (not a Brakes Brothers/3663 lorry in sight!) and cooked to order on the premises. I particularly recommend the beef madras curry, cooked by the landlord to his own recipe using fresh spices. As I am diabetic I was able to choo. Everything was fantastic , the owner Tony is still carrying out a bit of work here and there , this didn't affect our stay. Tony was extremely welcoming and hospitable , would recommend this place to everyone. Didn't want to leave . Such a beautiful 16th century building located in such an unexpected place . Very quaint , extremely pretty and welcoming . Can't wait to go back . We stayed in challet 2 a very comfy one nights stay, Tony the owner and all the staff were very welcomming and freindly, a good real ale and evening meal all cooked fresh, the breakfast was plentyfull and exellent, will return again. Well done Tony and the Team. An old style inn - a really good pub with accommodation. Easy going landlord, good beer, excellent choice of food (for a pub) and the cooked breakfast was one of the best. Would certainly return. A very old quirky place, lots of history to it. Staff and owner very friendly , food good. Perfectly situated for visit's to National Trust property's, which was our purpose to the visit. Building was lovely, proprietor and staff very friendly and welcoming. Quaint and traditional with a twist. Shame we didn't have longer to enjoy it, our stay being a brief one night stop. Everything, the Landlord / Lady, along with the Staff were incredibly friendly, nothing was a problem, oh and the English Breakfast was as good as any i have ever had, top notch. I loved everything about the hotel...from the moment l arrived until the moment l left l felt like l had arrived at home.l will be coming back... Friendly but not obtrusive staff. Location was delightful Bed was extremely comfortable Breakfast was lovely Our room was a pleasant surprise and very quiet. Easy stroll to town center and nearby Kilver Court. Staff friendly ,breakfast was great and altogether good value for money. the location was lovely - very pretty village bed was very comfortable staff were very understanding of the difficulties faced. Location, bar, breakfast. I like the idea of cabins in the grounds with access to all the pub facilities. The young man behind the bar (he saved the day). The courtyard and the age of the building. Location was central for all areas and activities. Comfortable bed Large room Nice dog. Lovely building. Comfortable bed and a good breakfast. The evening meal was nice. ...Toilet was noisy it's a macerator type, so I'd bring some ear plugs. Noise can be heard through the walls and from the bar below the rooms. But bar soundproofing what could they do? Every building built has this problem. The dog was not as intimidating as I hoped, it didn't meet me at the gate barking at me showing it's pearlys and it didn't even attempt to bite my ankles. Nor did it attempt to kidnap any children and take them back to it's cave. Very dissapointing. The bathroom could do with a door/curtain for privacy and also a shaving mirror close to the basin, the shower was very weak pressure wich made it hard to use. If I was being picky, it was rather chilly in the bar. No real grouses, but would have been nice to have a lounge area away from the bar. Bed was on a slight slope towards the foot because the floor, part of the very old building, was sloping. Nothing. I had to leave.. Parking a lottery!. uneven floor but part of charm very old inn so acceptable. The weather!. there was nothing not to like!!!. Nothing - will be back for more!. nothing to dislike. Small bathroom. nought. Shepton Mallet town centre depressing. Very poorly signposted. Empty shops. Tacky shower room - thinest plastic toilet seat I have ever sat on!. Bathroom could do with updating Decoration could do with touching up. Not one staff smiled or made us feel welcome except the guy in the morning who was friendly. It felt the hotel's heart was cold (or maybe hiding). Toilet got stuck around 4am in the night. The button wouldn't pop out and then the pump system made a bad noise continuously. Ended up dismantling the toilet in the night to try and resolve the problem. No staff available on arrival. Young lad, possibly owner's son had to find key and show room. Hot water not working initially. Very small electric radiator not adequate to heat room. Normal central heating radiator not working. Damp patch with loose plaster on ceiling. not much. The bathroom facilities were very disappointing- very crampt and décor needs care and attention - ideally redecoration and modernisation. plumbing was very poor with exposed pipes that dripped - and the toilet flooded the bathroom during the night. Standard of finishing in the cottage was poor (no door on the bathroom for example). Evening meal in the pub was less than average quality. I'd stay there again but eat somewhere else next time. The proprietor was extremely rude to the point of upsetting my wife. Attitude completely unacceptable. Double room booked but single beds provided and proprietor thought it acceptable (it wasn't just us). Unclean and unmaintained rooms (leaking water supplies, broken windows, dirty showers, collapsed seats on chairs, mirrors too high, lots of other issues. Poor breakfast (over cooked), poor service, forgetful chef (forgot several items on several meals). I could go on. The place resembled a building site. Not enough staff, you had to wait for over an hour for your evening meals. Short on quite a lot of the meals, explanation was that no one had made an order, plus no ice! Given the Website I was really looking forward to staying at the Dusthole, and enjoying the food, I have to say that I was very disappointed. Not terribly friendly Bathroom small and dated Faint unpleasant smell throughout. which is in need of total refurbishment or even renovation. My room was dire. difficult to find. Friendly but not efficient. Food OK. No hot water in evening and luke warm in morning Our room could have been cleaner. Miserable staff. Difficult to find parking space. Gaps in bedroom door one could look through. Ensuite bathroom door had see through curtain so little privacy. Dirty room Shower didnt work Huge pub dog pestering for food at your table. The whole place needs a good overhaul and upgrade. Rooms were basic and not very clean. Bedding was clean . I was extremely disappointed and will not be staying there again. I would have rather have slept in my car. Reason for my stay was a wedding and this just took the shine off the weekend, I was very limited of places to stay after only having 3 days to plan my visit, but expected more for my money.
