If you want a formal 4/5 star environment, don't come to Lower Barn! It is informal, very friendly, eclectic in design and appearance - you could say "quirky" - and that isn't pejorative. Bright colours everywhere,clever ideas - .how many people would use a huge cable reel end as a dining table ? - on which we had excellent breakfasts

When we arived, everybody was so nice. (and the stayed nice all the time!) Our chamber was like a little house and we had a tv with some nice dvd's, so we could watch a movie (or two). The colors in the room were fantastic! Every little thing was designed and it was beautiful. We had dinner at the bed and breakfast. That was amazing! There was also an hot tub. lovely!

We booked two rooms for ourselves and my Inlaws for four nights. We were
welcomed on arrival by Phil who immediately made us welcome with
tea/coffee and go,e-made cake, while Helen got our rooms keys. We
were then shown to our rooms which were well furnished, immaculately
clean with kingsize beds.

We pre-booked an evening meal. Our hostess Helen is an ex-chef and the meal was sensational as was breakfast the next morning. the room was a good size as was bathroom with all facilities. Our host Phil is a bit different but loves to engage in a philosophical chat. Helen is warm and friendly. the surrounds are very quiet and we would certainly go back there, and would expect our hosts to be very welcoming again.. Staff were lovely and made sure we were comfortable. The place has just been done up and everything is nice and new and modern. Even though we had checked out at 11am, the staff let us come back to shower after surfing. This made a massive difference to our day and travel home. The breakfast was also nice. There was free WiFi and it had a couple of pool tables which kept us entertained whilst enjoying a pint at the end of the long day surfing.

Our expectations were low and we were pleasantly surprised at how nice our room and bath were.One waitress especially nice going above and beyond to get us directions to Plymouth.
Next to pedestrian ferry to Plymouth and next to Edgecumbe Park. Popular pub.

My father was the landlord of this pub when it was the three tuns. That was about 45 years ago. I wanted to see if it had changed much and although the bar has the accomodation is the same but improved with the addition of bathrooms etc. The staff were very kind and helpfull and the food was excellent -
