The hotel being on the edge of the forest was probably the in the most woderfull setting i have ever stayed at.   It was what you'd expect from a typical German Gasthof. Friendly staff, pleasant and very clean rooms, excellent continental breakfast. We dined in a few times and the quality of the meals was also excellent - typical hearty German meals. We had a wonderful holiday and would definitely consider going bac - The hotel is superbly located just off the main square in this small town. Wernigerode is a picturesque,small town located in the Harz region. There is a beautiful castle overlooking the town which may be reached by tourist bus, train style bus and horse-drawn carriages. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops selling superb cakes
