This was my 18th hotel in 30 days and was the best. The gaslight district is a short walk and there is heaps to do in the area. The staff went out of there way to advise on things to do. Special pat on the back to Jen who obviously takes much pride in the hotel, doing her job well and making sure all visitors are happy. The taxi stand is at the hotel. There was always a cab there if it was needed. Complimentary shuttle is also available at all times.

I liked the fact that it was a city-feeling hotel, old school with modern touches. The hotel was on the hilly part of downtown San Diego, overlooking the City itself with a distant view of the Harbor; along with a walkway extending outward with table and chairs for outside sitting to catch the incredible breeze. I liked the personal touch of a "sail boat" greeting card, which everyone signed, placed in the hotel room. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The free shuttle service to Balboa Park, the airport and Harbour Drive was extremely useful. It took a little bit to schedule shuttles in the morning, but in the afternoon, you could call 15 minutes in advance and have a free shuttle at your service. The breakfast was fantastic, as well. We loved the breakfast Holiday Inn Express always offers. Also at this particular one the shuttle service to the zoo was invaluable as San Diego traffic is terrible to drive in. The staff is very nice and the rooms were very clean. Also I was surprised to see Bath and Body works products in the bathroom. Very nice. The complimentary shuttle was fantastic. They took us everywhere we wanted to go and picked us up, The front desk staff was outstanding. The breakfast was very good , plenty of hot choices. The location was perfect and with the shuttle service we didn't need to rent a car. I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff are extremely welcoming, helpful and professional. Alex, the drive is a gem for your business. He is proud of the city and of your facility and was so helpful with all the extra tips on where to go, eat and travel in San Diego. Breakfasts were nutritious and offered several choices. Front desk staff extremely helpful and friendly, shuttle from cruise port to San Diego Zoo and to airport wonderful service. Breakfast delicious, even provided bagged food for our early departure. Great service, friendly staff, good value, large comfortable rooms. Definitely thumbs up!!. The staff is oustanding and always willing to help. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The courtesy van to pick up and return to the airport is a plus. The hotel's location for whatever you want to do in San Diego is perfect, especially for Balboa Park. Loved Midge! She is their liaison for their Points customers but is friendly and helps everyone. She made the stay more personal. Great shuttle service to Balboa Park and the Midway, plus good directions to light rail to Petco Stadium. I really like how everything was easy to get to. Nick was great on our final night there too but there were so many others. happy hour was a welcome bonus...we were told location not right where Gas Town was but parking was not an issue at all between there, hotel and Midway exhibit...easy to get around... I have never had such a pleasant stay while on vacation. Midge Solis was exceptional in making sure our visit to San Diego and accommodations were top rate. Handy location walking distance to town centre and easy access to transport. Has free airport shuttle which made it easy to get to and from accommodation. It was a great stay. The location was outside downtown San Diego, on a hill that was very steep (not good for older/eldery individuals), also in an area that was a bit downtrotten. However, this was part of its charm as well. Best for business travelers and people passing through. We wished there was more information about what the hotel had to offer. We drove all around looking for a place for dinner only to discover there was a restaurant right next to the hotel and even an elevator that took you there. Did not find that out until the second day. Also there was a bar with snacks and soft drinks but we never heard how it worked. Was there a fee? What time did it open? We caught the end of it both days so never bothered to ask. A small glitch with airport pickup. We missed the shuttle somehow. The rest of the stay more than made up for it. Nothing. Breakfast room is very crowded, and we missed the peak but the line must stand between the rows of tables. Eggs have that powdered look which they probably could avoid. Should showcase one San Diego grown food or condiment. The only thing is really didn't like was that the restroom was a little to small. Bathroom was teeny tiny. Just big enough for one person. Lack of ventilation fan was disconcerting. Elevators were SLOOOOWWWWW. Annoyingly slow. To make matters worse, there is no convenient stairwell that isn't alarmed so when you are on the 2nd floor, there is no other option to go down a floor without waiting for the elevator. LAME. I needed about a week more to see everything I wanted to see!. I can't say anything nasty here. breakfast nook a little too busy and crowded but adequate. we enjoyed every aspect of this hotel. Wish a microwave was available in room - other than that, no concerns. The room was located on the street side and a bit noisy from city traffic. But the room was excellent and clean. Pool was very small and would have been nice to have a jacuzzi too. Small bathrooms. Pay to hire the safe in your room per night and all the extra taxes on every day. Car parking should of been free for guest staying at the hotel. Even thou I did appreciate the discount rates for guest. The swimming pool is quite smaller than how it seems in the photos. The heating system in the room is quite noisy when is working. Ice machine way way down the long hall. Parking is very tight. You didn't have a bottle opener!. Nothing. Hotel is not brand new nor luxurious, but good value for money at this location. Complimentary breakfast closes at 10 AM. said heated pool, but not enough. Distance to/from the convention center. The room was a bit old-fashioned, except the LCD TV. the hotel was not the most modern we've ever been in. The bathtub and shower could use some renovation. A minor charge for $1 per day for the safe in room.We did not use use this. Nothing. No free parking. Too much noise throughout the night. I fell the maids need to clean the rooms more thowral. we found dirty paper plates behind the night stands between the beds. The breakfast facility. The first room key were given lead us to a room where someone was already staying!. None of the advertising mentioned the daily parking fee. On our first day, Housekeeping did not come to pick up the dirty towels or make the bed. We did notify the Front Desk, the dirty towels were picked up.
