I read some of the reviews here before booking, some great, some not so great, but the price was the best in town, so I figured heck, I'll give it a try. For my stay, The best part of this hotel is the owners hospitality. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. all reviews » When I pulled in the driveway, the big sign out front read "Real Furniture", Free WiFi, Flat Screen Tvs, etc. I wondered what was meant by Real Furniture? What a pleasant surprise when I went I went to my room and found furniture that one might find in a bedroom at home. Not the usual drab, cheap, hotel furniture in most hotels. The last time I was in Salida I stayed at a nearby hotel that literally has 2 x 8 boards attached to the walls & covered with wood grain contact paper. Yuk. Anyway,. I loved the comfortable bed with soft linens and fluffy pillows. The huge, spotless room was newly renovated and freshly painted in soft, warm colors. I had an incredible view of snow capped mountains from my windows. It was great not having to scramble in the morning looking for a place to eat. I enjoyed a very convenient, quick, and more than ample continental breakfast in the lobby. The assorted muffins were especially tasty. The new owner, Mike, and his staff were great. Whenever I saw. The Family Cottage was just the right size for four good friends (all women) and we really liked the fact that it was in the back, away from the street and surrounded by natural vegetation. The king-size and queen-size beds were very comfortable (the manager warned us that the sleeper sofa was not so good, but we didn't need it.) Plenty of hot water; everything was quite clean and the little refrigerator kept everything at the right temperature. Great value for the money!. Our booking was supposed to be two beds for my best friend and I but there was a mix up and it ended up being one king. It was their last room so we were unable to switch it. The owner got involved and completely handled it with the best customer service we have experienced. We were impressed with his lack of hesitation to rectify the mistake:-). The room was very large and the jacuzzi tub was nice. WiFi was fast and free with good signal strength in the room. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage and it was so private and quiet. The Innkeeper had the rooms toasty warm (it was quite cold out) when we arrived and everything was clean and recently updated.Not luxurious, but, good old western hospitality reigned. Mike is a great owner and went out of his way to make sure we had a quiet, comfortable room. He and the staff continue to upgrade the motel, and they are a welcome addition to Salida. We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived. The proprioter gave us a lot of useful local information. Great location for Aquatic Center and Salida. Well run family business. Clean and well-kept. Appreciated mini-fridge and microwave in room. Nice breakfast nook in office area. Everyone was friendly. Coffee pot didn't work and was replaced at once. The morning staff member was really nice! The tv in the room was awesome. The bed was comfy. The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and polite. Clean, value, decent bed, quick check in. The leak in the bathroom tub too. The bottom of the shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a month. The guy who checked us in the evening was welcoming or friendly. Smoke smell in office, we are used to smoke free. Light on smoke detector was not lit, could not tell if unit was operative. Used bar of soap on bath tub, was bath tub cleaned?. Could hear everybody walking , closing doors, showering. Cleaning people forgot old soap in shower. No light in the little cupboard for the coffee. There appears to be a box springs sham to cover it---use it. Would not recommend. The colors in the room were a little crazy. Pink curtains, green rug, brown and blue comforter. Breakfast, staff, and dirty pool. Room was dirty, not at all what is was pictured like on the web. Breakfast was a joke. Bug in the bathroom. For the price of the stay it was a poor choice, could have stayed at a spa for one night for the cost. If we could have found another hotel to stay at I would have changed in a heart beat. Smoke smell in a non smoking room. Hotel is dirty Staff unprofessional they were lying I was charged 136.00 for room instead 79.0 as I supposed to be Breakfast room super dirty with very skinny breakfast old dry jam in containers no fruits white bread in bags I travel often I have never seen anything like that no wonder they were empty.
