The Christopher Dodge House is just such a cosy place to stay at with ataff that really makes you feel welcome, I fell in love with it as soon as I walked through the door! The room we had was really lovely with a fireplace and lot attention to detail. The dinining room is just such an amazing and inviting place with high ceilings and brick walls. I only wish we could have stayed longer. We did not mind the traffic outside at all as the beautiful setting and the reallc nice staff made up for i.
all reviews » We have been travelling all over the world with a family of four (adults plus daughters of 17 and 19) and Christopher Dodge has definitely been one of the best places to stay. Really helpful, pleasant and professional staff, nice clean premises, excellent breakfast and most of all a cosy, homely feeling. Since the location was great as well with walkig distance to the centre of Providence this all made for a great stay. Thank you, all at Christopher Dodge!. The whole establishment is well run. The staff are very friendly in a genuine, warm way. The breakfast provided and other little snacks left for the day were a polite, welcoming gesture. Our room was comfortable and home-like, not musty and soley utilitarian, neither was it fussy, phony "historical". It had a pleasant patio near the street entrance. In addition, if you are a good walker, it is quite near downtown,including the local bus teminal . The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable enough for 2 nights. Closet and bath were pretty small, but clean. Breakfast was very good - many things to choose from, with a hot item offered every day. Liked the fact there was a computer & printer available in a hospitality room, plus complimentary tea, coffee & snacks available all day. If you like bed-and- breakfast lodging, this was a lovely place to stay. Christopher Dodge house is a really nice small hotel on the edge of Providence. Unfortunately we were there to meet up with friends en route to Cape Cod and saw very little of the City, but the hotel itself was well-located within walking distance of the railway station and was an ideal place for us to stay. This is a very charming Inn. It's large enough that you don't feel as if you're staying in a strangers guest room, but is so much more welcoming and comfortable than any hotel. Charming restored period house in tired but regenerating residential area of Providence within easy walking distance of city centre. Old world charm, huge king bed, freshly prepared breakfasts pleasant helpful staff and free on-site parking. Room5 is big and airy enough to pass a day like you are at home...With a fireplace in the room, might be very romantic as well...Lovely and very central! 2 small balconies of the hotel welcome smokers and non-smokers alike. The room was huge, clean. Nice atmosphere. The house appeared to be a remnant of a neighborhood that wasn't knocked down to make way for a ten lane expressway. So traffic noise was constant. It was so constant that it became a kind of "white noise" that didn't disturb my sleep. It would not keep me from staying there again. The positive elements outweighed it. Location was not "upscale" and it was a little far for walking to the sights for older folks like us (in our 60's). Nothing to mention as a negative - a main road runs just behind the property but we were not conscious of this in our room. In our room G1, the shower room was rather small and the shower mechanism was rather dated and difficult to control. Although located quite close to an interstate between the house and the town, this did not intrude into the house. Apart from freshly cooked items, the breakfast offerings were of average standard. Nothing! It is a wonderful place!. Our room had many accouterments (like refrig, stove, sink, dishwasher, dinnerware etc.) that took up space that I think would be better served by having boudoir chairs and a small table. I doubt too many people go to a B&B for long stays where they plan on cooking, and even if you did so here, there were no chairs/table at which to eat. Nothing!. not suitable for people with mobility difficulties - there are stairs everywhere which are quite steep & there is no lift, constant background traffic noise from nearby interstate may bother some - I slept well, my wife didn't!. Fair amount of traffic noise Steep stairs to get to my room (third floor) - I could handle the stairs but definitely not for everyone. Right next to freeway, freeway noise hard to escape, noise was reduced with window shutters. Parking on a hill. Couldn't get my room key to work so we left it unlocked. Breakfast attendant could have used some help. She would have to leave the room to make breakfast for other clients, which left the dining room unattended for lengths of time. bed linens need replacing - a bit on the shabby side. No pillow protectors. Slight criticism only, lacked comfy chair(s) in room although lounge upstairs ok two chairs only though. Bed is too soft for me. room was a bit cold in the beginning, the thermostat is not readily in view and behind the toilet door. Not a big deal, but bathroom was slightly small. Our room looked out and was next to the parking lot,brightly lit at night which made sleeping very difficult since there were no shades on the windows. Breakfast a little heavy on carbohydrates and fats - could use more fresh fruit. Location next to major interstate Noise. Didn't like the walk to the fourth floor. Couldn't get TV to work, couldn't find control for fireplace. serving hot food on cold plates. The stairs and no help with the luggage. The hotel is 10 meters from the side of the interstate and is the Noisiest room we have ever stayed in so it was very difficult to sleep. The hotel is located next to the highway. It I very noisy!. Location seemed to be in a sketchy neighborhood. My room was in the front, lower floor/basement: windows looked out eye-level right on to the sidewalk~ I kept the blinds drawn all the time. Breakfast was not served until 8:00 ~ I had an earlier meeting, could not take advantage of breakfast. The interstate 95 just under my bedroom : It has been impossible to have a good sleep. Was not convenient to any restaurants for the evening. Face the 95 highway, noise make feel like sleeping on the highway, the insulation is very poor. The twin beds are the most Uncomfortable ones I ever had, wiggling like rocking chair. Breakfast is incoulded in the price, because we leave early, they just give us one bagel, one bottle of 16oz. Water costs $1.
