the hotel had some great benefits. Cookies, fruit and coffee available all day for no extra charge, and a decent breakfast (no eggs, etc). Also a free movie rental system, which is a nice touch, and popcorn for sale in the vending machine for $1. The room was comfortable, lots of space, microwave, fridge and even a cooking area..which we didn't test. Free working WiFi and parking. Location was a 2 minute walk to a Trader Joe's and 3 minutes to the central area of town, and easily walk able to .
all reviews » Customer service is very good, John at the reception the night we have arrived was very helpful. They served a continental breakfast ;fruits, bagels, toasts, cereals, juice and coffee, breakfast is at the reception a bit too small but there is a deck behind the reception that you can go with your breakfast. Room is cleaned, free parking. You can walk to the aquarium (about 20 minutes), very nice a <<must to do<<. Very good value for your money. Within walking distance of old Monterey just follow the yellow studs in the pavement to visit the heritage sites. Rooms comfortable and quiet. Excellent value for money.Staff helpful and knowledgeable. Even gave us directions to a launderette to catch up after 2 weeks travelling in CA. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The facilities were very good for the price and the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. We were also able to borrow a DVD from a selection of 300. There was complimentary coffee, tea, cookies and fruit available in the lobby. We did not actually stay at the Colton Inn. We had reservations and had an accident in SF so were not able to continue our vacation. The manager was so kind and helpful when we called and allowed us to cancel our reservation without penalty. They had fresh cookies when we checked in and the breakfast was excellent. It was right in the middle of town but it was very quiet and relaxing. John on reception was great and changed our room to side away from road. Coffee and snacks in afternoon and breakfast was good. Easy walking distance to Fishermans wharf and highly recommended restaurant LouLous on the commercial wharf. I have stayed here twice and have enjoyed both times. It is not upscale but is very conveniently located and clean and comfortable. You can spend a lot of $$$ staying in Monterey but you don't need to. Stay at the Colton Inn instead. Really helpfull staff, nice touch that there were cookies and teas and coffees to help yourself to aswell as free dvd rentals from a huge selection! Compared to other hotels booked on this trip we wished we could have stayed longer. The staff are very sociable and helpful. Even though this place is an inn, the rooms are on par with a 3-4 star hotel. The beds are extremely comfy and clean. Even the continental breakfast had an impressive spread!. Original room on level 2 facing road would have been a bit noisy and lacked privacy as hotel is set down a bit below road level so level 2 is close to road level. Ask for room on opposite side. There is no place to sit and have breakfast and the choices are very poor. No hot breakfast but for price that was ok. first night our room electricity went out, but was comped the room. leaving. very poor breakfast. It would have been nice if the hotel were a little closer to the pier. Bed very uncomfortable. Shower head too short for 6'2' person. Facilities not upgraded. Noisy ceiling fan No air/ room temp. a bit weathered.
