I loved the history of the hotel. It's not like the huge hotels on the island, but it is romantic in that it kind of takes you back in time. Don't look at it as what it could be, but for what it once was and still is, and you will fall in love with it. Arrived at night, so didn't see that they have this beautiful view of the ocean. Attached restaurant serves huge portions. Good food. Especially the banana bread. It passed mine, per my kids. hahaha.
all reviews » Very friendly at reception. Parking was good even though others took advantage of parking along the perimeters of the lot. That is, we wanted to be sure that we could get out of the parking lot in the very early hours of the morning so that we we could get ur early inter-island flight. Hotel staff curule ensure tat people did not park in the thoroughfare of the exit of the parking lot. Very friendly and responsive staff, clean rooms and fresh towels, mix of both American and foreign guest, available in-house restaurant, refreshing fish pond, central location to downtown, available pool and parking, free coffee, budget-friendly rates ... no hidden charges, privacy, hotel age and character not for everyone (keep it our secret ... great place to stay). I liked the friendliness and helpfullness of the staff .Also the when we called the front desk to report a faulty shower head and plugged sink, the repairman responded in a few minutes. He was very friendly and professional. This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel, and would stay here and recommend it to all of my friends. Great location and room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the happy hour in the bar. Hilo does not have many tourist accommodations but we were glad to find this place and will stay here on our next visit to Hilo. I liked the room rate, the clean and comfortable room, and the Coconut Grill restaurant had a great menu, good food, and friendly, attentive wait staff. Not very much, spent 8 days With my mother brother and sister so 4 of us in a room with 2 beds, got charged @ $ 30.00 for 8 days because The other two people were not children they were adults a 91 year old mother with her 3 siblings. In a handicap room with the water going off from Hot to Cold while giving my mother her bath. Found Underwear and rubbish from the previous renters under the bed??? Had to ask for more towels everyday housekeeper said I forgot now mind you we stayed 8 days and she. Nothing, I loved it all. Parking was a bit of a hassle because other people lined the extremities of the parking area. Some windows in fixed position ... did not close on windy nights, resolved by drawing curtains, no mini-bar, microwave, or local/national newsprint ... just free wireless internet service in lobby. Nothing I didn't like. The hotel is located in a semi- industrial area so there is some noise. Not having a great Internet connection in my room. Breakfast comes in small portion The building is old Noisy, even after the window closed Have to carry the luggare to second floor, no elevator. Beds were too soft. We woke with sore backs in the morning. Pool not heated, therefore too cold to swim in February. Free wifi only available in the lobby, wifi in the rooms was $9/day. No free wifi in the room. It was a bit "dated". Somewhat dated rooms. would not want one of the interior views. The management went on the cheap when replacing the water heater and instead of a 50 gallon a 30 gallon was installed. This made it impossible for the second of two people to take a hot shower after the first had finished...after about two minutes the water was COLD!. No lift, difficult to get large luggage to room No secure parking No safe in room. bug in the room. more a motel than a hotel but considering the price it's ok; furniture oldish. Air conditioner noise was sow load I could not sleep. Too close to airport. Breakfast wasnt open early enough for early morning flights. I heard about your seafood dinners on kapa fm so I ordered the Alaskan King crab legs from the menu, very disappointed as the shells were soft and the meat dry. My wife asked me not to send them back so I ended up ordering a salad. The shower head was attached very low in the shower. I'm only 5'4 and I had to bend my knees slightly to rinse my head. My husband who is 5'10 hated it. The rooms (bedroom and bathroom) were quite small. Aging infrastructure - reminds me of Hawaii Hotels from the 1980'S. It's time to invest in upgrades to the rooms, bathrooms, ect. Also did NOT like the beds. Have had to pay a visit to my doctor for back pain (ouch) -beds were too soft. Booked my room on letsbookhotel.com. Front desk staff could NOT find my reservations during a 15 minute span - backoffice personnel are supposed to punch in reservations in order for the front desk staff to see the current reservations. No Aloha for , Hawaiian locals and there Super Seniors Family..!!!. very dated very noisy, hard to sleep.
