Obviously not a 5-star affair, but when Monterey was overrun for a
festival, and there wasn't an affordable hotel room to be found for
cities around, this was exactly what we needed and slightly more
affordable than expected, especially at the last minute.
Good for one night. Room was fine, good bed. We weren't kept awake by the truck drivers.

The Garlic Inn was clean and convenient.
The price was fairly reasonable. Check-in & check-out was quick and easy. Parking was nearby and plentiful. The Inn had an attached gas station & convenience store, which was...convenient, though other nearby gas stations had far lower fuel prices. The room came with a free coffee, soda or water. The room had a color TV with cable, a small fridge, and a small microwave.
Bed was OK. Part of bathroom had been updated. It was fairly clean, I've seen worse for far more money.

The only positive part was it was a mini mart on the 1st floor and it
had a gas station.

and convenience... Hard to argue with it.
Very noisy due to trucks refueling 24/7. Rooms are very aged.
Premises were very dirty. No soap in the bathroom.
Every day I had to go to the desk and have a new key issues.
The room had some bugs. The Inn location by a truck stop and busy railroad tracks made for a noisy sleepless night. The room's walls seemed paper thin. No coffee machine or hair dryer in the room, though it did have soap and shampoo. No conditioner or lotion. The bed was uncomfortable, though the room itself was fairly clean. Overall the room and its location was below average for the room's price. I would not ever stay here again.
I hadn't noted anywhere in the ad that it was above a mini-mart fast food etc. store with large service stations front and rear. The car wash, railroad line (active) and 24 hr truck stop were also features?.

there was no table in the room.
Poor customer service, rooms smelled like cigarette, took a long time to
check me in, not very friendly in general. I asked to pay extra for the
wifi which on the site it said $5 for 24hr wifi usage the employee said
I couldn't get that.
Staff and management were rude and spoke little if any English.
Panhandlers hang around the front door. Stairs used as a urinal. Toilet
seat didn't fit bowl properly and wasn't bolted down. Shower was
dirty. Spent night worrying that car would be stolen. Continuous noise
throughout night.
