Great location in downtown Dubuque. The lobby is warm and inviting, and the room was very tastefully appointed and comfortable. The bathroom's French doors and glass shower were especially nice touches. Good parking. Had a great view from our 7th floor room. Most enjoyable!. I initially booked a room with a single king bed but when we arrived we needed a room with two beds and they were able to accomodate us on a very busy weekend. Kids liked swimming in the pool. Staff were super friendly and the hotel is very clean and nice.
all reviews » The remodeled Julian was great. We last stayed there 51 years ago on our honeymoon night. Both our trips to Dubuque were a stop over on the fall color tour. The room was nicely appointed. The bath was beautiful and clean. Dinner was ok, but service and food not top-notch. However, I would still recommend it. The facilites are beautiful and have an old world charm. It is situated right in the heart of Dubuque - lots of activities are within walking distance. I have been waiting for four years for an excuse to stay at the Hotel Julien. It did not disappoint. Cozy little room #705 was just what I wanted. The room was very nice. Shower was excellent. Beds were comfortable. Conveniently located near restaurants. Green Mountain coffee was good. Quiet, nice main floor amenities, very convenient for downtown features such as the museum/aquarium, casino, harbor and river front, etc. the rooms were very nice,updated and clean. We stayed on the 3rd floor and it was very quiet. Nice shower. Room was clean. Room was comfortable. Staff was responsive. Staff was pleasant. Restaurant was excellent. Beautiful room, very clean. Bathroom was beautiful. Robes are a nice touch. Recently renovated, wonderful location, terrific service. Great old hotel with modern updates. I liked the blend. The bed was very appealing to the eye, but was a little too 'cushy' for my liking. I prefer a firmer mattress. Parking was a nightmare! We are handicapped and there was no parking, nor help getting into the hotel. I worried we were going to end up at the hospital instead of the hotel. Strongly suggest valet parking!!. Understandable, but unfortunate that room prices are almost doubled from one night to the next based on the night of the week and/or holiday of the season. Prices were a bit high, but I expected that. We were on the Main Street side of the hotel and the bars across the street were quite noisy until closing. Water was not that good, bottled water was $2 per bottle. We used it to make coffee. If the Caroline restaurant is part of the hotel, the grapefruit "Juice" was a cocktail. We wouldn't have ordered it had we known. Breakfast was merely so so. A small continental style fruit, toast, juice bar would have been nice. Pool could have been a little bigger, however, overall, very nice. Liked it all. We've been before so knew what to expect. Restaurant was loud and food just ok. Price was high because it wash sold-out weekend. No full massages. -------. The only thing we had a complaint about was that the Riverboat Lounge turned into a college kid night club. We were planning to enjoy a late night drink there, but the awful music and drunken college kids everywhere made it a pretty undesirable scene. But, this would not deter me from staying again. Very nice hotel. The pillows were cheap. At the price we paid we should have had luxury bedding. We were right next to the ice machine and elevator. Someone decided to fill their cooler with ice at seven AM. We took our own luggage down on departure and because of the layout of the hotel we had to parade through the restaurant. We attended a high school reunion there. The dance floor was very sticky and the room had an unpleasant odor! It was a beautiful room with an open air terrace. Too bad. There was no complimentary coffee in the hotel besides the room. Had to purchase from the restaurant after desk personnel told us to give them his name for complimentary coffee. It was overpriced for the small styrofoam cup. The staff was so unfriendly! For what we pay to stay here, they should be kissing our buts. They made it seem like we were bothering them! Very rude and unprofessional! You need a men's bathroom in the lobby, that is just tacky not to. You need complementary water and coffee downstairs! You staff needs to lighten up and take some classes on how to give good customer service. The price! It was not worth the price. too high price room was oK. The noisy bar across the street and the manager who didn't believe it was so. Also, our room was NOT cleaned after our first night!!!!.
