Even though it rained and was a dreary weekend, the atmosphere inside the Inn was cosy and warm. There was plenty to do and a variety of places to eat right there and once we parked we didn't have to get out and drive around in the pouring rain to keep ourselves fed and entertained. It was a relaxed atmosphere where we were able to leisurely enjoy ourselves and get the in the Christmas Spirit. You could tell everybody felt that way because the staff and guests were friendly and relaxed.
all reviews » The Grove Park Inn has a spectacular huge entrance with massive fireplaces--looks like the big lodges in National Parks. The old part of the Inn is historic and the setting is lovely in the mountains and on a beautiful golf course. The staff was very friendly and helpful for the most part. The full breakfast buffett is huge and rather expensive but you also can get less expensive food in the shop areas. The grounds are very well kept. The location was wonderful and of course, the history of this old inn was very interesting. The sports complex was excellent with lots of activities for the guests. Also, the shuttle that was provided to get around the resort was an excellent idea. The Dueling Pianos in Elaine's on Saturday evening was also a delightful experience. The Grove Park Inn is an amazing property .It combines a gorgeous Mountain resort which is serene luxurious historical hotel with world class spa , golf and gorgeous grounds. The staff is friendly, well trained and efficient. You truly are treated as a guest. The food is exceptional. I was particularly fond of the historic section (which is where I chose to stay); the lobby is spectacular in every way. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in my comfortable leather chair--having a drink, reading John Le Carre' or just watching the assorted assembled people. The hotel was less than 10 minutes from downtown Asheville so we were able to enjoy some of the local restaurants and experienced the local atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly and open minded. We have been visiting the inn for several years and have always loved being there. The wonderful warmth of the fireplaces burning, the friendly staff, and the beauty of the inn we so enjoy!. Atmosphere was very nice. Turn-of-the century styling was impressive. Rooms were clean and spacious. Staff was friendly, courteous and very helpful. Mountain views were spectacular. loved the fire places and the view of the mountains in the distance! thought the restaurants were very good although a little pricey. Everything but valet checkout. The bed and pillows are the best ever! I believe that I will invest in the same mattress set. Convenient location. Lots of dining choices---however, Grovewood Cafe is not mentioned even though it is on the Inn grounds. beautiful view, comfortable beds, nice retail shops. Stunning artwork throughout the resort. Very enjoyable stay. the staff was extremely proffessional and very personalble. The Horizons resturant was impeccable. Wonderful property in the blue ridge mountains. Our room the first night was in the old part of the inn (which we prefer) but was noisy. We requested a move to another room which they did, but the move was not done at the agreed upon time and was kind of muffed. We also requested a sound machine to mute the outside noise and it worked well. For the cost of the room, I think you should not have to pay and extra 25.00 for the use of the sports complex. The food was also overpriced. The ala carte expenses for parking, and other amenities adds up. I have to admit the service, scenery and food is worth it. I'm racking my brain and honestly can't say that there is anything I "didn't like". I will say that there was a great deal of construction going on when I was there which was at worst annoying. We would have liked it more if it were spring or fall, the landscape was bare due to the season. The only item I saw that needed addressing was in the ladies steam room in the spa there was a sconce not burning, one that had a burnt lense and a piece of tile missing from the seating area. I don't believe the room was a very good value for the money. Food was very expensive but good. Not much entertainment for Valentines Day. Renovation crews should not have been working on Valentines day. Very noisy. The lobby being torn up an in disarray with the noise of construction. I was offended by the extra charge resort fee and once you get a room price that should be the price plus tax of course. Valet checkout on Sunday was extremely chaotic. There appeared to be plenty of staff. The issue was THE PROCESS. A hotel as fine as GPI should have processes in place that are well thought out. The gentleman at the desk was overwhelmed with phone calls while dealing with valet issues. He should have only been taking phone calls at that busy time. This was between 1030 am and 1100 am. Good luck. Whenever we asked directions for somewhere in the inn (like where is the elevator?) the directions given were either wrong or so poorly expressed we got lost. Grove wood cafe is on the grounds but not in the brochure. Spa very expensive. N/A. Some hidden fees that you should be mindfull of. Finding my room was a little complicated. Could incorporate a little better room identification process. The bathroom was too small for a guy my size. I injured my need and have a bruise on my head. It was demeaning to the place to call it Omni Grove Park Inn. Grove Park Inn has far more cache on its own than prefacing the place with a mundane corporate label. Dinner, drinks, etc. are a bit pricey. Hard to find anything not to like. Should have booked donner, spa ahead of time since it was full. Our so-called "meal" on the dining porch -- the only venue open that night -- was a disaster. The service was abysmally slow, the food was an embarrassment for an establishment such as yours, and all for an exorbitant price. We waited over an hour for our food, my "medium" baseball steak was well-well-well done and the restaurant manager acknowledged as much by waiving our check. All in all, not a good experience. Not much. My stay wS too short. Found rooms in old section to be very noisy because Of air conditioner. Air in room very wet. My clothes felt wet all the time. Also. The closet had a leak from a pipe and some clothes hung There got wet. I liked everything. Sometimes the staff were not as user friendly. e.g. the first night we went to dinner we were seated but told in no uncertain terms that it would have been better had we made reservations, yet we were seated without delay....on the other hand the front desk was exceptional.... It was too expensive. $5 a day to park your car. $90 per person just to soak in the hot tub. We will not return. There was a lot of construction going on that made it less desirable. Unfortunately, they are doing major renovations, so the only negative I can say is the inconvenience of the construction. Taxi service in Asheville needs improvement. Long wait after dinner to get back to the GPI. construction. The rooms. No "wow" factor. For the cost per room, we expected the rooms to be like that of a Ritz Carlton instead of a Hampton Inn. Room was not up to standards. Under renovation. LONG travel to room. The price for upgrade Access to the facilities at the spa were not convenient!. Hidden add on charges for things we did not use. Hidden fees and the price for dinner was unreasonable. We were woken up at 7 am by construction above us. Also we had a spa treatment tgat would end at 1:00 and were told that it would be a $50 charge for a late check out. Cost for quality of dinner and drink. nothing. Needs to have transportation on the cardiac hill area parking lot. Food was good but overpriced!. I stumbled and fell when I entered the bathroom and broke a bone. It was my fault - I had been told there was a step-up and forget. That dampened the whole trip. I did not report it to anyone because it was my fault. We were in the old section. Bed. Added fees that were never disclosed prior.
