A historical hall set in a fantastic setting, the gardens a joy to behold. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the room and facilities were just perfect. Add that to tremendous food, and it's a venue we are already looking to go back to!. Position was ideal for our needs. Others may like the position in the countryside for leisure activities and/or when on business the connection to the motorway north or south.The history connected with the house. View of the gardens.
all reviews » Nice surroundings plenty of walks. Hotel a little tired, bedroom needed an update, bathroom tired. Warm welcome, breakfast good and plenty. Would recommend to mature visitor. My son at 30 would not like facilites. The building/panelling/chandeliers/marble pillared breakfast room. The gardens. Comfortable beds. Hot water. Full breakfast. The faded gentility of a stately home and for us at a bargain price!. Location, old world country house with plenty of history on display, rooms spacious, staff v friendly and informative. Good food, plenty of information/ leaflets. Great farm shop at the gates. Loved the place, extremely clean and staff friendly and helpful. Afternoon tea on the terrace was fantastic. The grounds are amazing and the views well worth it. Incredible value. Magnificent building and gardens. Takes your breath away, loved it. It feels like your a million miles from civilization but only 20 mins from the rat race. Lovely breakfast too. I did not stay my Brother in law and sisiter in law stayed for thier 30th Wedding Anniversary - It was a surpise gift for them they said it was wonderful,staff excellent. The quiet peaceful location and the uniqueness of the building itself . Its just a shame i didnt have enough time to explore and absorb the history relating to it. The room was very comfortable and clean, we attended a wedding and could not fault the whole day would highly recommend booking a wedding to remember there. No negatives from me - You have to like traditional buildings to fully appeciate this hotel and make some allowances for slight imperfections. Bar area small, seating outside could be better. Place neeeds a good gardener but grass looked well. Could have done with qa good clean all through. A bit to old worldly. That we only had one night there, next time will stay much longer. The food was disappointing in that we found it difficult to find anything that we really wanted (not fussy eaters). The menu in the bar seemed confused. Mixture of bar food and fine dining. Sent ours back and went without. Goats cheese salad as a starter was NOT worth over £5 and both meals looked unappetising despite waiting over 30 mins. More parking would be helpful. If we were being pedantic; directional signs throughout the building could be better ; due to the sheer size and number of rooms ; its easy to get lost ?. The lay out of the facilities, long way to bedrooms from function rooms, but it is an old building. I would have liked to enjoy spa facilities. Could do with more sign on the main road to tell you were it is. Politics. The single room was very 'single' - fortunately you did not need to spend long in the room. Could do with updating in places. Evening menu would be improved with more variety. Could not find fault. Nothing at all. The rooms weren't well enough sound proofed - you could hear the people next door!!. No pool. Some aspects of hotel were a bit tired mainly decoration of bar. Bit cold in restaurant and bar. early checkout. Needs a lot of updating, its and old building but in slightly worn state, modernising would spoil it but a lick of paint here and there would not go amiss. There was nothing to dislike.lovely atmosphere about the place. When considered as a hotel, interesting but very dated surroundings. Rather austere atmosphere. From a business point of view could start breakfast earlier. it was a very hot day maybe more fans in the room the wedding party were eating. nothing. No help finding the room; its beautiful to walk around but easy to get lost finding a room!. The breakfast room area small and should have a mix of table numbers ie some for 2 people or for 1. Check out is too early at 10:30. The breakfast was 20minutes late both days I tried. Unfortunately the music from a wedding reception was very loud, and although we appeared to be in a far corner it was still disrupting until late. the double bed was 2 singles push together shower rooms not sound proof. The bedrooms were tired and need a bit of TLC and a clean. The room felt like a dormitory. Bland walls and decor and chunky pine furniture were a let down. I know I booked at short notice and I needed to be in the area but the dismal room did not make this an enjoyable night. I would like to see if all the bedrooms are the same before I booked again.
