Glenburn Hotel is an Edwardian property which offers home-cooked food, ample free parking, and free WiFi. The owners had arranged a lovely basket of flowers for my wife as it was our anniversary but also upgraded our room what a lovely touch, a very clen and bright hotel lovely freindly staff in a great position. Very confortable rooms and great to have a bar and social area so that you can unwind after a busy day. Breakfasts were excellent and offers a good evening menu if you don't want to go out.
all reviews » This is an excellent hotel, i cannot beleive that is only rated as a 2 Star. The staff made us feel very welcome and worked very hard. Nothing was too much trouble.The food was very good and our compliment to the Chef in this regard bearing in mind the small kitchen he has to work in.Overall a very good experience and it wont be long before we return. Enjoyed our stay so much on the way home we said we would be booking next year and recommending it friends and family. I found the staff to be very friendly and the owner of the hotel was avery friendly lady too.We had a relaxing night away, the hotel was perfect and we will berebooking in the future. The bathroom/toilet was very, very small. To take a shower was a major operation.Room was cold, especially the bathroom. Television was too small.Breakfast was ok but the bacon was hard. we where desturbed frequently in the night by people in other rooms either with creaking floor boards or people going to the toilet.Did like finding someone elses dirt underware stuffed down the back of the bed on the morning we left. As it was an old building there was a lot of noise from floorboards and when people came in late at night it was disturbing also the time for breakfast was not very good for us.Only an hour for breakfast, uncomfortable bed. Uncomfortable bed. Not really what i would call a hotel. It is a guest house which closes from a staff perspective at 11pm. The room was not cleaned on the 3rd day, we had to ask for clean towels. The coffee/biscuits in the room were not replenished, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable, with large springs sticking out.rooms small. Whilst recently refurbished the bathroom was v. small - no room to put anything. cleaning/replenishing the room was a bit "hit and miss". The owners were unfriendly and unhelpful. They knew letsbookhotel.com said that breakfast was included when it wasn't but did not care or seem bothered to change this misinformation.Room was very small, nowhere to put overnight bag and smelt mouldy. Only booked this hotel because we could use leisure facilities at Parklands hotel. What a joke - 4 pieces of gym equipment from the 1970's stuck in a small box room Pool was only small and not enough space to swim with more than 4 people in at once. The Glenburn Hotel was overpriced including drinks at the bar. Would not go back. It was just boarding house with attitude.

The restaurant at the Glenburn is continuing to gain an enviable reputation for outstanding home-cooked gourmet food. The hearty full English breakfast and buffet will prepare you for a day out on the Lake District fells.

The relaxed but elegant candlelit 4-course dinner is definitely a treat not to be missed. It is complemented by a wide choice of wines from around the world.

Windermere achieved its modern status as one of the Lake District's most vibrant towns with the arrival of the railway in 1847.

Since the 19th-century, visitors have come to Windermere and nearby Bowness to take in the wonderful views of Lake Windermere (named after the Norse settler Vinand as in "Vinand's mere") and sample the delights of central Lakeland. Windermere boasts many fine shops and a walk around the centre of the town reveals a wealth of slate and limestone buildings in various architectural styles. Windermere's close proximity to Bowness (the two towns are often thought of as one) allows it to share the delights of Bowness whilst keeping a charming character of its own.

Travelling information

Windermere is the central location for touring the Lake District. The Glenburn Hotel and River Cottage are ideally situated within easy walking distance of the village, with its fine selection of shops, bistros and restaurants.

A little further down the road brings you to Lake Windermere in Bowness. There you can take one of the many boat trips on offer, visit the Beatrix Potter museum or spend the day just browsing the wonderful shops. This is also where Parkland Country Club, our complimentary leisure club, is situated, which has something for everyone and every age.

It's easy to get away from the crowds too, with stunning countryside just a short distance away. A private car park at the front and rear of the hotel provides ample free parking for all rooms and for those on foot the railway station is within easy walking distance.

Directions

From the M6: Exit junction 36 and follow signs to Windermere on the A591. When you see the Windermere Hotel take the next left turning sign-posted "Windermere and Bowness on Windermere". Continue past the shops and carry on down New Road, heading towards Bowness and the lake. The hotel can then be found on the lefthand side just before the park and stone clock tower.
