This hotel is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. We received a warm welcome on arrival. The staff are excellent - attentive without being obsequious, the room was perfect and the food superb. Set in lovely grounds overlooking Ullswater, who could ask for more?. The service we experienced during our stay at the hotel was excellent, the meals served were quite exceptional, we have no hesitation in recommending a stay at the Rampsbeck.

I had a fall on a poorly lit stairway/landing. After that the staff could not have done more to make our stay comfortable, but they are excellent anyway. We were impressed by the staff who were highly efficient as well as very friendly and attentive.Quiet and well run, enjoyed the breakfasts and the evening meal is priced at a level that matches the quality of food and service. Hands on management of owner...well trained staff...imaginative food. friendly, good meal, good occasion (drinks, hors d'oevres). View and hotel grounds excellant. A bit brighter, but not much brighter, lighting in stairways would be good.A minor point, and we knew before we arrived, but internet access would have been handy. the room was far too hot and i could not alter the heating, there was only one window which opened. possibly the interior design needs upgrading and modernisation. Dinner menu was overly elaborate and specialised also pretty expensive. As a result we did not eat dinner at the hotel.The food in the hotel restaurant was delicious, although the menu seemed overly fussy for my tastes. It was as if they were trying to fit as many decadent ingredients into each dish as possible. Our room was nicely decorated but the bathroom was rather dated and the bed a bit too soft. We couldn't afford one of the front balcony rooms so had to make do with peering at the lake from the bathroom. no complaints about anything. Our room was a little cramped in terms of the bedroom though thebathroom was large and well appointed. My bill I noted upon reading thissite was drawn to david sinclair of amsterdam. I live in ashford kent.It seems there may have been a mix up on this front. Room on the cramped side,,,. Price of evening meal was London (Ritz) equivalent,and prohibitive to a lot of buisness users.
