This was my 1st trip since the refurbishment and what a great job they have done with the re decoration of the Bedrooms & all other areas and the Dining Room has been very tastefully transformed into a very stylish area with an excellent cooking standard to match and very friendly attentive service. I love it's location sat amongst the rolling hills of north devon and definitely recommend a visit as you won't be disappointed.
all reviews » The room recently refurbished was fantastic. Nice and big the bed was large and lovely bathroom. Dinner cooked by chef Bruce was perfect, he even came out and we made sure he knew how much we enjoyed it. In the mornig we enjoyed the lovely jacuzzi, sauna and swimming pool. All round great stay. Affordable high quality service and facilities with a welcoming atmosphere. Should I have further work commitments in the area I would definitely reside here for the duration. Bedroom was very comfortable 'tho steep stairs rather "puffing". Dinner and breakfast very good and scenery from hotel was stunning. The very good food, which was more than ample. The friendliness & helpfulness of the staff. The setting, the food, the quietness, the decor, comfortable bed. the Peace and Quiet. No Pressure. The staff were freindly and welcoming. Everything to a very high standerd. Friendly staff, made you welcome. Quietness. Excellent room and bedroom for size and comfort. Nice refurb. Location. The hotel was very clean, but the carpet in our room was badly stained, I would not expect to find this in a hotel of this category. Our room was down a steep slope from main bldg, so we needed to drive up & down. My husband is lame & has difficulty in walking. I do realize that there is building work in progress, so I supposethat we were fortunate to be accomodated in what is otherwise a very acceptable hotel. No signs telling you where to go for dining room etc No reception Noisy water tank during the night. Not sure on the directions on leaving the hotel to go to Barnstaple. The high price of meals. Rather a lot of stairs if you have a room on top floor! The directions to get there were not easy to follow,even with an ipad!. Not a dislike but we could have used a stool or place to put a suitcase other than on the floor of the bedroom or on the bed. Hospitality tray was hidden in cupbord instead of being displayed in desk. They were rather mean with number of tea bags since we arived early and left late. Awful breakfast Amateurishly run. No Heating in room No Hot water Dust Price of Beer £4.00 a bottle! Dog barking in room next door. Our booking, though confirmed by letsbookhotel.com, was apparently unknown to the reception staff. As we had travelled a long distance to attend the funeral of a close relative this was upsetting.TV didn't work. Breakfast service was very slow; in fact we left without it in the end as we had to get ready for the funeral.
