I booked a one week stay, B&B in a single room hoping for a relaxing holiday after a busy few months at work. On arrival check in was easy and very friendly. Then came the part I had dreaded. (As a single traveller, on occasions rooms elsewhere have been little more than a broom cupboard with a view of the bins...!). Key card in and to my surprise, a double room with superb ensuite and a sea view (room 234). Very pleasant, comfortable room, spotlessly clean and welcoming. Breakfast had ever.

It was my first time here but was very impressed by the amount of facilities available.This complex caters for all ages from young children to the more more mature of us .There is also featured weekends to suit the range of ages at reas. My single room, indoor lap pool/changing & shower area, Thursday evenings until 22:00 by the outside pool and Bistro for music and dancing & Pimms, excellent breakfast, brilliant staff, friendly hollidaymakers and Derwent said I could use all of the facilities of the hotel complex including the car park until the end of the day! Even if the weather is not so good, you can easily keep yourself amused at the Derwent; they have everything! Torquay seaside 10 minutes away for paddling and w. Upon arrival we were greeted by helpful reception staff who ran us through various details. We had asked for a refurbed room after reading reviews and this what we received. Breakfast was a pleasant experience, helpful waiter & quick service. Although building renovation is ongoing, this did not impact on our stay, the contractors were chatty as we passed. Evening entertainment was included & although the clientel were senior citizens in the whole, we enjoyed the activities. All in all,. Fantastic value for money, room was very spacious. Facilities were excellent - pool fantastic. Great games room with pool tables, game machines and a little 10 pin bowling alley (very reasonably priced) Rooms appeared to have good soundproofing. Bar/food very reasonable. Evening entertainment to suit all and good location for the beach. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was good. A great hotel for families with young children especially with British weather!!. Really enjoyed our stay at the Derwent, friendly and helpful staff, great entertainments team always doing somthing to keep guests entertained. Superb facilities at the Derwent and sister hotels, great indoor and outdoor pools, bowls, ten pin bowling ect. Hotel very clean and tidy. Very enjoyable breakfast. would have loved to stay longer so will deffinately be returning, hopefully soon. the room we had was very good,clean and a comfy bed (few and far between). 2 pools outsideand 2pools inside plenty of places to eat inside the hotel. also a spa and hairdressers and also bowling.breakfast was good, entertainment in the evening as well what more can you ask,. a 2 star hotel that should be more. will definately go again. Staff were friendly and the gym and pool are good. We asked for a bath in our room and this was sorted by the hotel, many thanks for this. Breakfast was good too, although one morning the seating arrangements were a bit chaotic when they decided to close an area they had told people to sit in the day before. I love Torquay and have stayed at the hotel before. The leisure facilities are great. I was provided with wheatfree toast each morning and decaffinated coffee sachets from reception. The continued refurbishment is being carried out well. The shower was excellent. The staff were 100% hotel rooms were ok my daughter had the up to date room was lovely . mine ok.but over all . brilliant hotel . due to all the staff . Pools indoor & outdoor. Aztec bar, great menu selection. Buffet breakfast good. Perfect location just a 5 min walk from the beach, harbour, shopping & bars/restaurants. Staff very helpful & friendly. The Hotel was very good for what we wanted . I travelled with my elderly mother and her friend. the facilities were excellent. It catered for all ages young and old alike. Would certainly book this Hotel again. The facilities were great, especially the Aztec bar, which served great food and was a nice chilled environment. We enjoyed the games area downstairs and the fact that they had happy hour in the evening. The Hotel met more than our expectations. I couldn't fault anything. The heat in the room in the Summer needs addressing in someway; being able to fully open the window or a ceiling fan would be ideal. Air conditioning is not necessary and isn't good for us. Recently stayed in a 5* in Sussex that was so hot I could not sleep at all and will not return there unless something is done about the heat. However, I will definitely return to the Derwent. Small point ~ would have liked a shelf above radiator for toiletries as the sink back wasn't big enough & had to use the floor space. Bathroom needed a bit of an update but did notice work being carried out in other rooms, so perhaps this is being done??. only the time it takes to get into torquay. The hotels location on a hill and steps at the entrance make it difficult for older guests and despite the lifts there are a lot of steps throughout the hotel. The bedroom floor was on a slope which was strange to walk on. We went into breakfast at 9.30am on Monday morning and the staff were unfriendly which was disappointing. Just the price. We wantd to go back this year. N/A. Decor a little old school and our room was quite far from the front and back door so meant a long trip down the corridors to and from the room. For what we paid and the location, can't really complain, just one of those things. Didn't like that the Aztec bar didn't serve food on the evenings we were there. If you are a light sleeper, don't expect to be asleep by midnight due to the entertainment being noisy but we were on the 1st floor so may be quieter on other floors. Rooms at the front are very noisy. But we was lucky enough to be able to change to a room at the back. which was much better. Rooms are very hot so you will need a fan. overall a good family hotel though. Long way to the room next time I will request a room nearer to the lift...my husband struggled. nothing. Hotel room was near the builders and by the man cleaning the bins at 7.15am !. The ladies on Reception were a little blunt - not great when thats the first impression of the hotel. games room needed brightening up a bit. Needs to be a higher star rating. room faced onto the road and was very noisy in the night, disturbing sleep. group of foreign exchange student staying in the hotel were both rude and noisy and they knocked our bedroom door several times during the night on two nights. not happy!!!!. There was nothing to grumble about. towels were very small hotels we have stayed in also provided gowns shower took a long time to heat. the hotel was a little worn in areas, but not a huge problem to our stay. The bed was very hard. Stair carpets really are getting a bit of a hazard!. Children running around the starlight lounge until 12.30am all children should be out of there by 10.00pm for adults to enjoy caberet etc Tables to close together in breakfast room i was literally sitting on a strangers lap personal space is important when eating. We wanted to extend our stay. The room was available but at a much higher rate than we had paid. If we had been offered the same rate that we had paid for the previous days, we would have stayed longer. Also on our last day, the waitress at breakfast was showing a bit too much underwear for first thing in the morning. Having parked the car, so approaching from the rear of the hotel, the staircase carpet is dated and shabby. Not the best first impression! Luckily the hotel is better than it's first impression. Only one lift working Rooms not as luxurious as per the website (clean though). Although clean and tidy, does need some updating, i.e. carpets were a little threadbare in places in hallways and bedroom. Some redecoration needed. Rooms could do with a uplift,had a water leak coming through the ceiling in the middle of the night. Parking could be a problem if arriving late afternoon. Some bedrooms need refurbishing. Lift facing hotel front kept hitting something metallic by the 2nd floor. Other people were worried about it too! It was reported but not much done. the trouble i and some others had in parking there car my starter was not what i am not used to one small piece of bread a few small prawns 1 leaf and a little drop of sauce on my plate. nothing!. Having to leave & come back to reality. The hotel was like a rabbit warren!. the only niggle i would mention would be the decor,and carpets being shabby. It wasnt to much of a dislike my room was old and looked onto the carpark my guests room had a view which was nicer. Parking was a little difficult but we were there on a Bank Holiday Tiny shower cubicle in a very generous sized bathroom. Nothing.
