I obviously booked my stay there through Bookings.com so had no prior contact to my arrival with the VoY, so had no pre-expectations (except that the photo on the Bk's.com site looked pretty basic, the photo did no justice, the chalet room was a pleasant welcome, comfortable, clean beds, ample storage, WiFi, ensuite bathroom with a good pressured shower, clean towels, ketlle w T&C&milk supplies & a free use t.v.) On arrival the staff were warm and friendly. The full English breakfas.
all reviews » Our twin room was clean and adequate. We liked it being a separate building next door to the Inn with our own key. The breakfast was excellent and so too was Sunday lunch and evening meals. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Next door to world famous Treske furniture factory & showrooms, and Thirsk Rail station. Busses to lovely & fascinating Thirsk. Very well located for tours of N Yorks. That pets were welcome to the pub.. we enjoyed interacting with them and their owners made it a friendly homely experience. Put pet friendly on website!!! great brekky,. Excellent value for money and pet friendly which is very important to me as most weeks I attend Championship Dog Shows through out the UK. Friendly staff and good food. Bar meal was first class. Only ordered Scampi & Chips but quality, Quantity and presentation were better than many good restaurants. Breakfast was also excellent. Although the rooms and en-suite were basic, the value for money was excellent. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. I have stayed at the Vale of York before and enjoyed my stay and this time I stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which was lovely. Liked the room en suite,power shower,clean & modern, beds comfortable. Breakfast was gorgeous as was the pub grub in the evening. The evening dinner was excellent and very good value for the money we paid. Rooms, although small, were clean and tidy. The food was good and loads of it and the fact that the accommodation was away from the pub kept it nice and quiet. Good location. Basic but functional. Good en-suite. The room needed a mirror on the wall near the electric plugs for hair drying etc. Bedroom Window didn't open enough for the very hot weather. heaters on too high... bedroom was far too warm. Our stay was very comfortable and I would return to this hotel. Behind the toilet seat was dirty with uncleaned urine and this put us off using the showers - the cleanining needs to be way more thorough. No matter where you stay or how much you spend some idiots must stay up to 4am ..but please do not take this as a bad thing for pub is highly recommended and I will stsy there again in my travels north to Scotland on my motor bike. Nothing I say. Room had no chair. rooms could do with a bit of an update. As it is a pub as well I had my dinner there, and although the food I ate was fantastic, it would have been nice to see more than one actual vegetarian option as a main course - there were about 4 with a little v, but only one didn't contain fish!. Leaving. car parking very tight no location indicated for hotel guests. Nothing, just as expected. no teaspoon supplied with tea/coffee making, drawer fronts has falled off. basic accommodation. Toilet light cord dirty and broken loo roll holder left on floor. Extractor fan filthy. rooms are on the small side with rather basic en suite facilities however the room was warm [snowing outside]. The bed was uncomfortable but I'm use to a king size so shouldn't really complain especially at the cost. The rooms were not brilliant they did not smell very fresh, the bathroom was not over clean and it was difficult to open the bathroom door as one of the beds was in front of it. The darts board had only one dart, and the pool table had no chalk. Basic rooms. The en suite facilities were tiny. The rooms were very noisy due to the proximity of the main road and being situated close to the door into the pub where people congregated to smoke. Oh and there was no shower head on the shower. very basic room. there were no facilities for hanging ones clothes I e, no wardrobe or hanging rails, no shelves of any kind in the bedroom or bathroom, no bedside light just the main ceiling light with the switch by the door and the electric kettle was on the floor as there was no other place for it to be. room was small requiring contortions to get into bathroom; Internet only worked in the pub, not in our room; thin blinds so hard to make room dark at night; loose carpeting in hallway; looks like maintenance has been neglected. Room was very small. Small room of poor quality. Very basic would of been upset if I had paid more than £33 for room. we have stayed in better equipped and more comfortable Youth Hostels as a family! Tatty and outdated, really disappointed.Family room had 3 beds, 1 tiny chest of drawers and an MDF unit with no doors on to hang our clothes. We were only staying 1 night so didn't think it worth making a fuss but really room was inadequate. Tiny kettle which was filthy and needed cleaning before we used it. :(. Very basic room. Only used the hotel as it was cheap - but surprised how really basic the facilities were in this 21st century. Really just a place to sleep as breakfast too late for me to continue journey on time - so left without . tv didn't work. Wifi not working, facilities basic, uncomfortable bed and tiny bathroom. Customer care had scope for development, particularly at breakfast.
