Being surprised at how much my children loved the grandness of the hotel. It was like a dream just beautiful. Yes the lifts did not work but the beautiful gardens and decoration of days gone by by far outway the inconvenience of the lift not working. The breakfast was fantastic. It was just the best and for the price sorry Premier Inn we won't be coming back to you!!. the character of the hotel was superb. as we walked into main rec. area there was the biggest real fire. it was so wellcoming. the buffet breakfast was to die for. all in all an excellent hotel that we would certainly use again.

Particularly enjoyed the real fires in the lounge as the weather was bitterly cold.Because we were not down for breakfast until 9-30, there was not much choice of cereal. our room was really hot, but we turned down the radiator and it was fine. Very busy at breakfast time resulting in staff being under pressure. The way breakfast was served. You had to wait for a table even though the dinning room wasn't full, it appeared that there wasn't enough staff to clear the tables. Although the staff who were there were working very hard.The lift it was to small,i and I would have liked a bedroom thatallowed smoking. Loved it all - dont be put off by other negative comments.£2 to park car. The arrangement for charging additional meals/drinks etc to my room was not explained when I booked in. On my first night the dinner was charged with no problem but on the second night the young lady in charge of the restaurant made an issue of the fact that I had no credit arranged. Also when we first entered the staff on duty said that the restaurant was to be closed because 50 bookings had not. I thought that the lunches could have been better also the replenishing of of food was rather slow. the reception was staffed by one receptionist who had also to take incoming phone calls .this should be improved. The dining room is like eating in an old fashioned station buffet. Breakfast quite appalling; 6 mornings the same tasteless food kept under heat lamps. Good food ruined. Breakfast was a shambles. On waiting for a free table the greeter kept diasppearing so it became a free for all, we waited 15 minutes!! However, the breakfast itself was enjoyable. I requested a front facing room but was given one at the back, without an explanation. Bedroom and corridors heated to too high a temperature.Having to run the hot tap for ages and waste a large amount of water to obtain hot water which was adequate when it arrived. Matresses need replacing they were really uncomfortable - had to have an extra duvet to make them more comfy. Called maintenance to look at shower but didn't turn up after 2 hours and couldn't have a shower.There was no heat in the bathroom as the towel rail wasn't working.
