The location of the Hotel is fantastic. In the middle of nowhere! The history about the Hotel is fascinating. All the facilities the Hotel offered are first rate. The staff are excellent, the food gorgeous and the rooms very clean and tidy. For somewhere to chill out amoungst beautiful surroundings, The Shap Wells Hotel will not disappoint. The decore was amazing, like stepping back in time. The staff were very friendly and the room was exceptionally comfortable. Will certainly consider the hotel next time we are in the lakes.

It was a very relaxing stay all staff where excellent and the facility's was just what we expected.The friendly staff and the cleanliness of room and public rooms and the reasonable price of drinks. One night stay with meal and breakfast. have stayed here many times. Peace and tranquility. staff. the staff, and the meals. Very relaxing. An unexpectedly wonderful location, close to the motorway but giving the impression of being in the middle of a delightful Cumbrian landscape. Would definitely use this hotel again as a base for exploring the northern Lakes.The rooms were clean, and comfy. We had a few games of pool in the games room, which was nice, followed by a buffet breakfast the following morning, which was excellent. it was comfortable and clean. every thing was great. The location of the hotel was superb, its what you want when you go to the lake district. Out of the way. Also it was a short drive away from other small villages where you could go and visit. The hotel also provided games facilities which helped in the night when you were relaxing having a drink. The staff were also really friendly and helpful.Staff were very friendly. The food was lovely although alot of items were out of stock on the menu. This was compensated for with a free drink for me and my partner. The Hospitality of the Restaurant Staffs were excellent and the Breakfast was nice.the peace and tranquility. enhanced by the friendly helpful staff. the surrounding countryside ,the rooms and the ambience. the bar and open fire near the foyer and the prices were very competitive for the quality of the hotel. This place has an appealing eccentricity that only serves to make the place all the more enjoyable!. Tv did not work in the morning. and the alarm clock did not work when cleaning the hotel the staff locked off the the lift.If we dont have a GPS we might have not been able to locate the hotel. so, there can be some sign boards on the main roads to locate and guide to hotel. certain staff and there grasp on the english language providing incorrect meal timings.Restaurant: It took a long time to receive ordered meal. An atrocious restaurant meal (as distinct from bar snacks which were ok).The areas where smoking took place out side were littered with cigarette ends which was not pleasant. It is all no smoking now, but so is everywhere.food not too good. Food was simple though reasonably well cooked. The hotel clearly caters for the coach tour market. The service in the restaurant was extremely poor in every respect, long waits for food, impossible to attract attention. Coffee eventually served after breakfast eaten etc etc. The bathroom fittings were not of a high standard of quality nor cleanliness. Late night disco seemed to vibrate through the whole hotel.The staff were a little rude, even although I stated and spelt my name 3 times they still insisted on spelling it wrong and called me Mr (I am female). Also they did not inform us that they were holding a party directly below us and we were kept awake by the noise until 12.30am when it finally finished. The food could have been much better.Bathrooms. The staff organization. We arrived and there was a power cut, strange, usually an hotel so big should have a generator?! The kitchen was a bit behind but he were not informed and kept 1 hour waiting at the bar.There is no air conditioning and the room were really warm! The breakfast wasn't amazing for a 3 stars hotel.. I did not like the way we were told to wait for the coach partys to finish before we could sit down an eat. Also it seemed as though people who were ordering off the al'a carte menu were looked after alot better than us who were on the set menu. Also there was a power cut and we had to wait till 9.15pm for something to eat after travelling all day!! Also the staff did not have a clue.No hot water in rooms, booked to have evening meal but not informed that due to short staff only set menu was available. Food was very poor. Receptionist and manager were generally unfriendly, unhelpful and unwelcoming.When we got to the hotel late, despite having phoned up to arrange a travel cot to be in our room, there was none, and when it was set up no sheet was provided, again something I had asked about beforehand. The room was clean, but the bathroom smelt very damp and had mould growth in places. The windows had a tilt and turn lock, but the one in the bathroom did not work to lock it on tilt. The ma. The wallpaper was coming off the bedroom wall. We had a venison fillet meal in the restaurant which tasted like liver and was significantly overcooked. When we complained the restaurant manager told us we had the "cheap" piece of meat and that it was definately venison, however the prices were not as cheap as the meat!!! No significant reduction in our restaurant bill despite the complaints.
