I rarely leave reviews, but our stay at the Dun Cow is a worthy exception. We were visiting on business and needed somewhere to stay the night. The rate was very reasonable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant were very busy which was nice to see. The food is exceptionally good with a wide range to choose from. It is worth a visit just to go and eat. The atmosphere is warm and enjoyable. The room was a very reasonable size, warm and comfortable. The bathroom/sho.
all reviews » It still keeps the atmosphere of an old historic coaching inn with a lovely garden in the inner courtyard and creaky corridors to the rooms - not forgeting the massive open hearth in the middle of the pub. But the comfort factor was definitely 21st century and it was nice and warm. The continental breakfast was super, while there was a hearty English breakfast for those with an even greater appetite. They were very busy when we arrived (a popular place with the locals) but were very helpful and attentive. Clean comfortable room, nice clean sizeable shower room and the room was a very nice size for us and our child. Very pleasant place. Good bed. Great TV. Nice staff. Parking fine. Great value for money. A great place and would happily stay there again, and look forward to doing so. plenty of parking, service was good even though they were busy. fantastic food, friendly staff, welcoming and accommodating( even tho we were dresssed for riding!) Large bedroom, clean and had great amenities. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT. A comfortable bed, TV good shower, Breakfast which was included in the cost. The location suited us and our plans to visit friends in Dunchurch. We loved the history of the hotel and the village. I stay in various accommodation during the working week. Innkeepers Lodge has to be one of, if not the best I have ever stayed in. It was superb in every way. Hotel was comfortable and well worth the money. We will be going back when we have more time to explore the surrounding areas. It was a small inn but we were made to feel very welcome. I hadn't realised that check-in was at 3 but they let us check-in at 2.30 which was appreciated. Found the night entrance easily as it was well signed. Modern bathroom. Location to family. I wasn't sure where to check in when we arrived. It turned out to be at the bar. This was quickly sorted. Just different!. Pillows a little thin, but that was the only thing wrong really. Food was nice (and good value)- Great homemade pies - but veg was a little overdone and rather canteen-ish, but that is a small criticism. Nothing. Nothing. When we checked in we reserved a table for dinner. When we came down for our meal there was no record to be found of our booking a table although they found one for us. Main road a bit busy but OK if in rooms at back. Breakfast a little disappointing. No fruit or cold meats included in continental breakfast and fresh orange juice wasn't included in the morning fruit juices available. Room curtains just not large enough to keep light out from road traffick. Could do with secondary glazing to lessen road noise which is not too bad but on a main crossroad, hence traffick at standstill is noisy. Bathroom was freezing!. Breakfast didn't live up to the rest of the stay. Wan't bad, but was just a buffet which was still being set up when we sat down. Relatively minor complaint when the everything else was very good. Very understaffed. We had to wait for longer than ten minutes to be served at the bar on every occasion we wanted a drink or food. The settee faced away from the TV so had to sit on bed to watch it! The hotel is actually called The Dun Cow (not Innkeeper's Lodge) so had to search and check this before checking in!. bathroom was cold. would have been useful for us to be able to take a meal from the bar to our room as we were travelling with a toddler and a baby who need to go to bed early. Noise from roadall night long!!!!. no bath in the room. My booking said there was continental breakfast so I wasn't aware I could have a full breakfast included in the price. Breakfast could have been better. hard to find were to book in. Breakfast and service. No Coffe cups had to ask after 10 minutes Coffee was cold Had to ask for refill and the quality of the cooked breakfast was appaling. breakfast. not tidying up tables. Room hadn't been hoovered as there were beads on the floor, presumably from a previous guest's broken necklace. Possibly due to letting us check in half an hour earlier but would have preferred waiting for a cleaner room. Mattress was uncomfortable - lumpy and sagged in the middle. Handsoap dispenser was empty. Would have preferred to pay more and have a full english breakfast. Bathroom layout was cramped - loo, wash basin and loo roll far too close together. No heating on a cooler night - the electric heater didn't work either making the stay unpleasant. Not enough variety available for a Continental Breakfast. Service was quite slow, and would of liked a cooked breakfast rather than just continental. We had to wait ages for someone to come and check us in. They had just decorated and room smelled of gloss paint. I requested anoter room but was told it was the same everywhere. They really should not have been open for business until the strong paint fumes had gone, it was quite bad really. room not made up but was quickly done. No cooked breakfast included. Breakfast was poor. Croissants tasted like bread rolls. No butter available. Very squeaky floorboards in room above ours (we were in room 14). Constant trekking about from 5.30 onwards! Breakfast was a bit disorganised - not enough tables. Room 11 which I stayed in smelt damp and musty very dissapointed. It was freezing cold in the rooms and bathroom I got in the shower then found out there was no shower gel in the dispenser radiators on in the corridors but not in the rooms. night entrance was not explained very well and we spent a good 20 mins trying to find it!! Breakfast was poor. Woke to find a wood louse on my arm. Floor boards were very loud and doors slamming with a constant stream of traffic going past did not assist with trying to get to sleep!!.
