The willingness of all the staff to help in any way. The extras of upgrading our room on our return stay just one day later. we enjoyed our stay so much we have booked to could back with all the family in May. Food was good and wedding arrangements went smoothly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and beautiful. The breakfast had a wondeful selection of hot and cold foods and the waiters were very helpful and friendly.

The only adverse comment is about the restaurant meal, although there was plenty of food it just lacked a finesse flavour. A dressing table with good lighting would be nice.The food was 'hotel' quality - catered rather than restaurant quality. One evening meal was poor as the chicken was not cooked sufficiently - even when I sent it back and the meal came back a few minutes later it was still not cooked through sufficiently. The breakfast had baked up fried eggs and the bacon was so dried out that we were unable to put a fork into it and it had to be ate we our fingers. The rooms whilst being comfortable and well appointed are a little tired and could do with a make-over.Staff were a touch austere. The rooms ( the two I have stayed in ), had quite dark decor, I'm not sure if it's the image they want to portray, being an old hotel? However, I feel that it doesn't show the fascinating rooms up to their full potential. , This however, is a minor thing.Badly peeling paintwork in part of the bedroom - from what appeared to be a leak - took away some of the upmarket ambience. shower was feeble and would not stay up and the towel rail kept breaking. Bar food was poor quality. lack of information. Non-residents had priority over dinner booking. I had booked a table citing a special occaision, was told on arrival that only one table available at 7pm. I could have been contacted earlier if there was a pressure for tables and offered a choice of time and dining room!. My room was fine but it was at the end of the hotel over the kitchen so was noisy late in the evening and early in the morning. Get one in one of the annexes if you can.No local knowledge on such matters as best transport to Henley (during Regatta week), car park availability and trains in region. Four poster bed, no television in bar area. Noisey at night. Shower was cold, hairdryer broken, quality of a suite disappointing. head banging on heads of doors. Three couples stayed over a Sunday night. There was no food available after 9 p.m. - not appreciated when we had been out all day. Road noise in two of the rooms was unbearable - from about 5.30 a.m. it seemed like cars were driving straight into the rooms. Bathroom floors dangerously slippery when wet.Another guest arguing with staff about an added 'extra' to the bill on leaving. Quality of restaurant service was appalling! (Faulty Towers on Thames).
