Based on one night stay we were greeted warmly by the owner/staff and felt very welcome immediately. (We had arrived quite late due to an RTC on the A66 and just missed the dinner service however the owner let us settle in with our luggage to large double/en-sute room and order our meal which we were very grateful for). The restaurant / bar is very popular with locals and has a warm atmosphere with some great personalities met. Both the evening meal and full Cumbria breakfast were delicious in .
all reviews » lovely country hotel with cosy bar and nice rooms . food in restaurant was top notch. away from main busy roads in smaller village but only 10mins out off penrith and not far to the lakes or carlisle or on your way to scotland . i stop for workpurposes,but great for stop over . a lovely little hotel. We targeted this country inn for our first few nights in the uk. We had a great welcome to Britain and a wonderful stay. The food was out of this world! The owner helped us plan subsequent explorations. Could not have been nicer or more helpful. Hotel Staff very helpful and friendly, room spacious and a comfy bed. Lovely view of the garden. Food was fantastic and the Bar had a nice atmosphere. Breakfast was beautiful and a great packed lunch provided. Village pub and cycle route. The bed was really comfy and bathroom was nice lots of hot water for my bath. The breakfast was great and my poached egg was well cooked with a runny middle lovely great service and plenty of choice great hospitality will use it again. We were unable to leave the bedroom window open due to local insects wanting to greet us and made it very warm/stuffy during the night which may be a positive to some. nothing not to like. be prepared for creaky floorboards as its a older country house,but that adds to the appeal, i usually have to leave at 7 to 730 so i dont get time for the brekkie which starts at8. The sleeping romm was small, but it was more than made up for by the great bath (with soaking tub) and the very inviting public spaces. Deco in some areas of Hotel very dated but so what!!. The room was a bit out dated and needs decorating bathroom was lovely. There was lots of cobwebs on the ceiling and walls. Everything was fine. The bathrooms in the rooms we had whilst tidy really are a bit tired and need to be renovated. Price of evening meal is a bit high, although the portions are good and it is well cooked. we dont have sat nav, more signage in the village would have been helpful. Breakfast was only 8-9, would have been nicer to be able to have breakfast until 10am on a Sunday. Small room. Nothing i didnt like. Our bedroom was adequate but could be redecorated, also bathroom/shower could be larger. restricted breakfast time for business travellers. (a) No directions to the hotel from the m6 (b) our bedroom-no3 was on the small size and rather cramped. (c) The TV was poorly located for viewing from the bed. As others have mentioned..there is a need for some up-grading of the room(s?). No doubt this is on the list for the management! It just takes to edge off an otherwise great little hotel. No Faults at all. N/A. Decor dated but clean. Room keys attached to metal plate, makes loads of noise when others are locking door early in morning, key fob should be made of wood ?. Nothing. The bedroom was a bit tired and in need of some remedial woodwork and painting but it was well appointed and, as it is only a place to sleep, not a problem. Bathroom a bit tired Tv in room unpredictable. None. Nothing. Rain. Low doorways. Foyer area a bit grubby. Certain furnishings shabby. nothing. The room was very small and not really suitable for more than a one or two night stop-over. small shower. The only downside was the very dated decor.
