Pembroke Guest House is the best B&B that I have ever stayed for any vacation!! The house is 10 minutes bus ride to Oxford center and the bus stop is just outside the house, so it was so convenient. I love it, not just the place is so nice and clean, also Clare is a super NICE host! The whole house is decorate nicely with art and the bedding and towels are so fresh and top quality... all reviews » The B&B is split over two houses and is beautifully appointed and clean. The owners live just opposite, are perfect hosts from checking your personal dietary requirements for breakfast to making recommendations of local places to see and eat. The house is about a 3 mile walk (along the Thames) into Oxford, which was delightful in the spring sunshine, while watching various boat races. There is also an excellent and frequent bus service from outside the property. The comprehensive 'continent. It's worth staying at Pembroke for the breakfasts alone. Every day Clare cooks up something different but always delicious and so beautifully presented. Best breakfast we have ever had in our many years of travel all over the world. Apart from the breakfasts, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. There was a lovely garden area with seating, tea and coffee facilities available in the kitchen area, as well as fridge space if required. The bus into Oxford stopped literally at the front door. . A real gem! Excellent accommodation,clean,modern and very comfortable. Excellent location bus for the city stops outside or you can walk into the city...a long walk but beautiful scenery on a nice day. Claire is a wonderful host,very helpful and knowledgable. Lovely family room on the top floor and very clean. Staff was very helpful and extremely accommodating in our difficult last minute requests for vegetarian, non dairy breakfast items. Location is a bit out of town when you are visiting Oxford but we would recommend you to walk along the river Thames to Oxford (45 minutes) and stop for a pint at Isis Farmhouse along the way. The lovely warm welcome on arrival from Claire she told us all the top sites to see ino Oxford and even gave us a map and bus timetable. The hotel was a short and cheap bus ride onto the city. The room was spacious and comfy with a big comfy bed. Even thr trains dudnt wake us up. Breakfast was delicious and set u up for the day. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely stay again . Clare was so friendly and helpful. She was a great communicator and her staff is amazing. The room was beautiful and cozy as was our bathroom. The bus is right across the street and there is a pub a couple blocks away. The common rooms are cozy and the breakfast was gourmet. Wonderful breakfast and good transporting services to Oxford. However, if you prefer walking there is a really nice 40 min walk along the river Thames right into Oxford following the thow-path. The smellies provided we're gorgeous! The gardens were amazing we only wish we had more time to chill out in the sunshine rather than fulfilling other commitments. They were both awkward to access as they were under the desk. Just a note of caution for the older/less agile: The shower was over the bath and although not a problem for us, it could be very difficult to get in and out of as the bath was set up from floor level and there was nowhere to hold onto, apart from the swinging shower screen, to steady yourself. nothing. Nothing - apart from leaving. I really had to think hard trying to find something I didn't like. I didn't... Not really a negative remark as we knew before we arrived but a shame the superior room did not have a bath to luxuriate in. The attic en suite was a little cramped for head space in places, but was not a real issue. nothing. Nothing. bathroom had a sloping ceiling so low that I hit my head on it every time that I used the basin, a lot of narrow stairs difficult to carry heavy suitcases, very close to high tension power lines at rear of house. The room was small, especially the bathroom. The location was a good ways from the university. The owner and manager were not on site, which was new to me. A little far from the city center. There was a mix-up over the booking so that there was noone to greet us - Claire does not live on the premises. Fortunately other guests let us in and Claire's partner, Clive, arrived with food for the morning and from then on everything went smoothly. There was genuine concern and we felt quickly reassured. Make sure you confirm time of arrival by e-mail with as much notice as possible. All good. Noise from trains!. A tiny bit more attention to the cleanliness of the bathroom would have made it even better. Room,although comfortable, was a little cramped. Shower plug hold didn't drain quickly so you had to wait a while between people showering. Has some trouble with the TV remote. Nothing!. nothing. This place is far from Oxford centre. I had to go out in the hallway to get to my "private" bathroom. 1)There was no one on staff there to help with any questions or concerns; 2) the room we reserved was a double with private bath; the room was tiny and the bath was outside the room and in the hall. This should be disclosed in the website. The person who checked us in knew absolutely nothing about the area .Overpriced for what we got; we felt we were students again in a dorm.
