we only had a short break, but we had a lovely stay. staff very kind and friendly. The warm and friendly welcome and excellent breakfast buffet. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The Linton Lodge in Oxford was at one time a beautiful hotel, unfortunately, not so beautiful now that it has the 'Best Western' sign at the front, looking terribly plastic and out of keeping. Also the addition to the front of the hotel - a sort of concrete overhang above the front doorway - is dreadful, initially giving us cause for concern as to what lay beyond. Bed not particularly comfortable. Work being done.When you sat on the toilet in our room, it leaked from the waste disposal pipe. Reception staff unwelcoming and unfriendly on arrival and during stay.Price of breakfast at £12.50 - we went elswhere. Our room was over the bar and there was some noise the second night. The hotel would have changed the room, but we did not have the energy to move at 12 midnight!. Lack of tv remote controller - despite reminder. A bit too hot. Kitchen aircon unit outside room window. No aircon in rooms. that not enough attention had been paid to the detailed dusting ie the bedside lamp and edge of batn panel which had abviously not been done for some time. It was verynoticable when using the toilet. thought man at desk was a bit abrupt good have been a bit friendlier. Felt the price should have included breakfast. It's a bit pricey for its location and although nice, not worth theprices being charged. The couple having very noisy nookie all night nextdoor didn't help either.Bar closed abruptly at 11pm before we were ready to leave. tv service was bad as well as the bed.I arranged a cold breakfast for 07:30 on Sunday which took quite a while to be assembled - I had to be on the road by 08:00 so missed out on some bits. Quality seemed a bit hit and miss e.g. cheese was all processed types, no skimmed milk, only full fat yoghourt etc. Since last staying there, breakfast is now an additional extra (@£12.50 a head), while room prices remain the same. Front desk staffvery helpful, but the overall impression gained was that standardshave slipped.Internal decs cheap and shoddy. Poor quality workmanship. Could hear other guests as if in our room as they walked down corridor. Yes, the room! I complained to reception about the following: Evidence of damp along the skirting boards. Also the bathroom door would not fully close or lock. Whilst I had no complaint about the bed linen nor towels, the room smelled damp and required serious re-decoration - certainly not what I would expect from a Best Western franchise!!. Hearing the person upstairs snoring throughout the night followed by someone in the flat above walking around their room in the early hours. The walls seem extremely thin to say the least. Silly price for breakfast. noisy timber floors, cracking steps above. Because it was a family room there was not much space. Too hot. Compared with other hotels we have stayed in, I thought it was expensive with no breakfast included. Had to move rooms as first one was very noisy. Both rooms were very small and the refurbishment had been to a budget rather than a standard. Dirty bath and unflushed toilet on arrival. Light above bed not working properly. Asked for wake up call but it never happened.Horrible music at breakfast time; breakfast overpriced (particulary given the rate I was paying for the room - but I gather that this was because I had booked through you, rather than direct). Very thin walls so very conscious of other guests. shower, tv service, too hot, 25 min walk to city centre. Far too expensive for an outdated hotel with a shower that didn't work and a lumpy bed. For a Best Western the hotel was shabby and the welcome could have been better. On departure it was snowing very hard on trying to clear the we left the suitcase on the drive. Even though we phoned the proprietor to say we were on our way back he did not go out to retrieve our suitcase because he was 'too busy'. I was disgusted and angry.The rooom was freezing on arrival, when the duty manager was contacted he brought a heater. He did not appear tp grasp that we expected the room to be warm and not make do with a heater. The bath had not been cleaned to a half decent standard. poor service.badly trained staff.no one knew what they were doing.
