  The young man on reception was very welcoming & informative. The room was smaller than expected but clean with a small bathroom with a shower cubicle. Slept with the window open and could hear the distant motorway traffic. The attached pub was ok, at early evening a lot of kids so the noise level was quite high. - We were on our way to a wedd... what people say » ing and due to a recent operation resulting in poor mobility we needed an overnight stop on the way to, and from, the venue. It was perfect - we booked a room specifically for people with disability problems and we couldn't have asked for more. The breakfast was very good as well!

  I have very seldom stayed in an inn that is as well managed as the Dog. The welcome was superb and the staff could not do enough to make me at home. The, the bar and serving staff are tru7ly excellent, the food very good indeed and the wine list well priced and excellent. How wonderful to be met by real log fires, tea made with leaves, big tea ... what people say » pots that pour and strainers that catch the leaves, Breakfasts are heroic with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and wonderful proper kippers Philipp - The attention to detail in the room, including black-out curtains, comfortable bed, tea-making facilities (including posh tea bags), fantastic breakfast (including local produce) - and overall an excellent personal service that far exceeded many 5 star hotels that we have used. Ate in the pub every evening as it was so good - with the staff not being able to do enough for us. Please stay here rather than in one of the typical chain hotels.
