Breakfast included smoked salmon and many other options. Quiet location in a very pretty setting, really excellent staff who were very helpful. Beds were incredibly comfortable and we got a lot of sleep. Lovely pool and spa area. Good fitness facilities. Good dining room, breakfast and dinner. The web view of the place misleads a person into thinking that it is an airport hotel (which I sought) and there is no shuttle to the airport.
all reviews » The room was very comfortable, the bathroom beautifully clean with all of the essentials for an overnight business stay. All staff were attentive and pleasant. Express checkout was very good. Food in Pentland reataurant was nice but menu could have been a bit more varied and was quite expensive. Needed a car to get anywhere (no shuttle from hotel). Obscure location for a person new to the area (first time vacationer in the area). Clumsy arrangement of check in vis a vis location of rooms. Only one person at the desk to help all the people checking in, seemed absurd, slow. The food in the Zest bar was acceptable but not brilliant for the price - poor value for money. That Wi-Fi was not free was a disappointment for a hotel of this size and stature. were not allowed in to the bar area for a certain period due to a wedding party utilising the room drink very expensive as were sandwiches would have liked a choice of say bacon rolls if you didn't want the full breakfast. Nothing to not like. Old manor pictured is actually only reception with several rooms on upper floor, actual accommodation is in new wing which alters whole experience a bit; network coverage is dodgy, wifi is free in main building, but very expensive in rooms; biggest issue for me was noise coming out of horrid or when people we passing by and that is due to fact that between doors and carpet there is 1 cm gap. Difficult to locate some rooms, lift takes aged. The food that was ordered through 'room-service', could have been hotter. Lack of signposts to find the hotel once we were in the area. Nothing. No dislikes. nothing. Breakfast very expensive. Request a room that doesn't face into the courtyard as those just face other rooms. Bar service was very poor. We waited over 15 minutes to be served. Next night I ordered drinks to be served and had to go and remind them 15 mins later that I was still waiting for my drinks. Staff seemed to have no order in serving. Badly want training to serve the customer. Unfortunately the swimming pool was not available due to refurbishment, this should have been highlighted when booking and at reception on arrival. The standard of breakfast was appalling. With that level there was no hope of leaving on a good note. Bar prices at the wedding were unbelievably high. Why do hotels continue to punish resident guests with these prices when most of us are prepared to pay for some of the surroundings across the bar. All they succeed in doing is encouraging a policy of bring your own in your luggage. Thought it a bit tired rooms could have been more comfortable for sitting and shower not great. They tell you the wifi is free which is a half truth. It's free in the lobby. Don't think your staying in the lovely building that the lobby is in. They take you down a rabbit hole to mediocer rooms with rough sheets scratch towels. Very cookie cutter. Some of the staff were quite nice and very helpfulbut some were lazy and very unhelpful. Poor breakfast, scrambled eggs were artificial. Stench in bedroom Arrogant and ignorant staff.
