Situated between the Spelga Reservoir and the Silent Valley, The Mourne Lodge is in the heart of the Mourne Mountains. It boasts free Wi-Fi and free private parking, along with a restaurant and a self-catering kitchen. The private en suite rooms offer a flat-screen TV with a DVD player and comfortable reading chairs. Some rooms are situated on the ground floor, with wheelchair access. The Mourne Lodge also offers beds in shared dormitories. All rooms come with a set of detailed maps for walking in the Mournes, and wet gear can be hired from the property. A pass to to the Silent Valley is also available for a reduced rate. Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast in the mornings. Breakfast includes fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, and a selection of cereals and bread. The restaurant serves freshly cooked meals (must be booked in advance), which are prepared using locally sourced produce. Ideal for self-catering, the guest kitchen includes 2 microwave ovens and a fridge. Guests can also hire a picnic basket from the property, and packed lunches can be ordered in advance. Overlooking the mountains, The Mourne Lodge boasts an outdoor barbeque area with a picnic table. Guests can also make use of a lounge with a 52-inch flat-screen TV, an extensive library, and a wood burning stove. Home to Lough Shannagh, the area surrounding the lodge is ideal for hill walking and scenic walks.

The staff were so friendly & really made us feel at home. Marade in particular was amazing - looked after us in every way, understood we were at a wedding, booked us taxis, made us breakfast late - couldn't fault the service! Great views, perfect for Silent Valley & Mourne Walks - will come back! Thanks :) Amy, Mark & sisters x. This lodge is a perfect place if You want a place where to start a hiking in the Mourne Mountains. Breakfast was awesome and the host was very pleasant and accomodating! The structure is new and tidy. it's located in the middle of a very small village (Attical) and very close to the town of Kilkeel and the sea( 5 min drive).
all reviews » The staff were very welcoming. There is small supermarket next door for supplies. Cooking facilities in the lodge. Very interesting area for hiking, so well placed to use as a base. We had to leave early in the morning, so the staff left a very nice breakfast for us which we very much appreciated. Very friendly and very clean would be Back again. I was ill while at the Mourne lodge but I was offered a lift into Kilkeel in order to get to the pharmacy if I wasnt up to driving, it was a lovely gesture. Mairead was really welcoming and friendly. The property was clean & tidy, with a well equipped kitchen, homely living room and great log fire. Very relaxed atmosphere. Quite far away from Newcastle so expensive in taxis to the centre if you're not driving e.g staying for a wedding. Even though the day had been warm, the night was cold and the heating in the room and the lodge was not working, so it was cold in our room. Nothing. It is easy to miss the Mourne lodge as it actually is called something else in Irish. The information shows that the Mourne lodge does evening meals. This did not appear to be the case when we stayed. Perhaps it is the case with larger groups but it is a misleading statement. Only convenient if you come by car. Kilkeel is a 5£ cab ride away, as are most major Mourne trails. You kind of need a car. Nothing. nothing. We thought the accommodation was over priced for the facilities on offer compared to other B&Bs. The cash in hand policy was very inconvienient. A TV in the communal lounge would have been appreciated by our party; considering there were 5 children. The price and it should say hostel not lodge. we do not like the toilet which is shared by the other room and the toilet door can be open in the other side even if the key is on. Mis-described accomodation (4 bunk beds in 'family' room - instead of twin and double beds). A shared en-suite (with another family) total pack of privacy. Less than friendly greeting on arrival. Lack of towels in room Wish Id never heard of this wretched place.
