What people say
Just returned from a lovely weekend at the Mary Mount Hotel. We stayed in room 38 which is in the new annex. It was a beautiful, spotlessly clean and spacious room with great views over Derwent Water. This a a gorgeous hotel with a very chilled atmosphere, the staff are great and keen to make sure everything is in place to ensure you have a great stay. There is a well stocked bar and you can enjoy a drink in the bar area beside a real fire or sit next to the restaurant area on comfy chesterfiel. all reviews »
The Mary Mount Hotel was as we expected. On arrival the staff was friendly and obliging,.We booked a room 23 overlooking the lake and fells, the room had an alcove bay window where you could sit and admire the stunning scenery. This made our 4 night break so much more relaxing. The food at the Hotel was good with a menu to suit most tastes and a choice specials of the day. The motor launch pick up point from the hotel grounds to take you into Keswick or around the lake was an added bonus. We foun.
The friendly staff on arrival and throughout our stay were amazing.
Accomodation in the new annexe was second to none at this price,
beautifully decorated furnished and well laid out. As for the food and
menu scope, could not fault anything, service was good and the meal was
amazing quality food and more than enough. Well done to all at the Mary
Mount, we will be back, you can rest assured we will recommend to all
our friends and family.
We stayed in the newly renovated section which was comfortable and well appointed. The hotel was outside the main town of Keswick, which suited us better, but was still close by. Many walks are located closely. Watching the red squirrels and birds at breakfast was a real treat. The two star rating is obviously not meant for the renovated section. The staff were freindly and the breakfast was lovely.
We couldn't fault anything at all. We have tried the best in the area but consider this to be he best now as the customer service from everybody is absolutely first class.
The food was excellent, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the warmth and friendliness was so nice to experience being from outside the area.
Would absolutely recommend this Hotel without hesitation.
We stayed for 9 days in the new accommodation which was spot on.We could not fault anything, the food was excellent & plentiful & the staff very attentive & pleasant.Nothing was too much trouble even to identifying an art print of Kohler's pig.We would recommend this hotel for a comfortable & friendly stay in wonderful surroundings. Thanks again Charlie & all.
Just come back from two nights at the Mary mount with just me and my hubby and had the most wonderful time.we went to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and that's just what we got.i loved every minute the hotel is amazing with wonderful views and walks, the food is lovely and the staff are all very friendly and polite.i will be going back again and I can't wait.thanks all.
The staff were brilliant, helpful, up beat and always available.
Location terrific, 2 miles from town, walk along the lake to Keswick.
Very quiet location.
We were in new block with excelent facilities and the best shower I've ever used.
I would highly recommend this hotel to all. it is not pretentious but does all required.
Feel very relaxed on our return.
Can't fault this hotel, staff were friendly and professional; food was great; the location was wonderful overlooking Derwent Water with fabulous views of Catbells. The room was amazing, it was located in the new annex; everything was new, with top quality furnishings, and it was huge with a full wall of patio doors enabling panaramic views.
We liked the hotel and everything about a Lake District hotel, it was comfy clean the food was excellent and all the staff were friendly, the area was
Fantastic for walking and the jetty to travel round the derwent water was just a stroll away.
We would give this hotel a five star rating for everything.
Thank you for a lovely stay.
The hotel is in an excellent location, perfect for those who wish to walk in the Lake District, as many beautiful walks start from almost outside the door. The room was an adequate size and perfectly clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We did not eat there at night but the breakfast was beautiful.
We were given a lovely room, which had French doors opening onto a garden area, it couldn't have been nicer, a real home from home. Our dogs were made very welcome. The food was excellent, ate all our meals there. Great walks from the door, Keswick just a short hike away on safe tracks. Will definitely return.
We loved everything about the hotel and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Food was superb, compliments to the chef, although there was too much on my plate every night.Came home much heavier than when we went.We are already planning another trip for later in the year. Please don't change a thing.
Everything really goof and much better location than anywhere else in Borrowdale for views from dining room.
Excellent value with large room and excellent views from there too.
One of best places I've stayed and now having discovered this hotel makes visiting the lakes affordable ! Thank you.
The new hotel wing.
The excellent staff and very experienced management.
The cleanliness of everywhere.
The wholesome and plentiful food at reasonable rates. The views and location are magnificent. Only a few miles from Keswick on the Derwent. Average cost of meal was £50 for 2 including wine.
We stayed in the new annex in room 39.View of the lake was a bonus. If
you want a bath then you need to stipulate this as I believe all the
rooms in the annex have only showers. The food was very good and quite
reasonably priced.Staff were very friendly and helpful.I Would stay
here again.
It was a very friendly family based Hotel. I was staying on my own, and felt very safe and well cared for. The staff were very friendly and it was such a comfortable Hotel. I needed some R & R and that is exactly what I got - with wonderful meals and an exquisite spot to stay.
It was incredibly peaceful with beautiful views across Catbells and
Borrowdale. There is a short walk down to Derwentwater where guests can
catch the ferry or, as I did, hire kayaks and other boats. The hotel has
the most marvellous atmosphere and I would love to go there again.
A lovely old fashioned hotel tucked away in extensive parkland with sheep roaming by. Uninterrupted view of the lake and mountains.
Our room was large with a stunning view, it was rather dated but clean and comfortable. The food was very good and the staff pleasant and helpful.
The welcome we received set the tone for the stay..... Nothing was too
much trouble. The room was in the new part and of a high standard. Food
was top class both at breakfast and also evening time. Information about
the area was fantastic and helped in our planning for each day.
Breaking our journey from the Midlands on the way to Scotland, staying
at the Mary Mount was a short but enjoyable experience. The food was
good and nice to have a couple of local beers on draft. The gardens and
view from the hotel are exceptional. Would recommend to others.
The view of Catbells was amazing. Ideal situation for the ferry boat service.Plenty of walks around the hotel.Lovely to see the birds on the bird feeders outside the window.Mountain festival was on when we were there.lots to see and do. Would love to go back this year.
This is a gem of a hotel. Perfectly situated with walks from the door.
The rooms in the annex were large and comfortable, the food was
excellent and the staff friendly and efficient. Many guests were regular
visitors which speaks for itself. We shall definitely return.
Lovely room overlooking the lake with beautiful linen and a very comfortable bed. The staff were all very friendly and the restaurant was lovely. We had a lovely meal in the evening, a great full English breakfast and a bar snack at lunchtime and it was all very nice.
It was all lovely, from the clean room with beautiful views, the friendly staff, the variety of wildlife and the scenic path leading to the Keswick ferry, we couldn't have asked for more. Unfortunately we had to cancel a return visit but we'll be back another time.
Friendly, efficient staff and a very comfortable, cosy hotel in a great location. Bar and restaurant well-equipped with good and plentiful choice of food. Our bedroom was clean and spacious with a fabulous view of Derwentwater and the surrounding hills.
Wonderful location. Quiet. Access to lake launch which runs regularly. Good bus service if you want to leave the car behind. Bird feeders strategically placed so possible to watch birds feeding during a meal and a thoughtful bird identification card.
I loved the location of the hotel, absolutely beautiful, i thought all the staff were very friendly and efficient at their jobs. Also the meals were excellent and the whole stay was excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Wonderful views from every window. Friendly staff, excellent food. A peaceful, relaxing haven. Warm, comfortable in fact everything you could want or need for a perfect break. Just delightful. Lots of birds on the many feeders, even a red squirrel.
Everything!!! We loved staying at this hotel, we thought the staff were
friendly, helpful and well mannered. The location was totally stunning
and took our breaths away. We didnt want to leave! So we have booked to
go again over may bank holiday!.
The staff, accomodation, food and setting was all wonderful at the Mary Mount Hotel. The location is peaceful with lots of walks around Derwent Water. There is also a good bus service into Keswick so we did not need a car.
Beautiful location, lovely accommodation in new annexe, excellently
situated sitting out areas and restaurant (good beer!) This is a very
comfortable and welcoming hotel, perfectly situated for walking and
touring the area.
we thought the location was superb. Our room in the new block was really good with a view of Catbells over the roof of the main house. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the food was good and good helpings.
Location, setting, gardens all excellent. Breakfast choice great and set us up for the day,.
Plentyof walks around the hotel and andnot to farf from Keswick.
Already looking forward to our next visit.
George's
Eaglesham.
Very much enjoyed the beautiful new room ,which was very luxurious for the price and the staff were also outstandingly good having the correct balance of friendliness and courtesy, with nothing being too much trouble,.
Lovely location - good starting point for walking/cycling; very helpful and friendly staff, superb meals, very comfortable, convenient for lake activities, good link to Keswick via launch. Would definitely stay again.
The hotel is set in a lovely position with fantastic views of Derwent Water and the hills. The bird life is amazing to watch through the windows while having breakfast in the restaurant. Would definitely stay again.
The location in the Lakes, the staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was good and portion size was excellent, the room was comfortable with some reservations.Though on balance I was pleased with the hotel.
The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The room was clean and very comfortable. The hotel is situated in a lovely place with beautiful views. The chef is excellent, food was fresh and tasty every evening.
Great Ambience
Friendly helpful staff
Lovely room with patio in new annexe.
Good Food and great service
Wonderful location and scenery
Views from the dining room. Saw red squirrels and lovely birdlifee.
I stayed in this hotel 43 years ago - It is now much bigger, modern and really friendly staff. The position is superb and walking right from the hotel is great. Local transport into Keswick is good.
Excellent location, room overlooking the lake and great mountain view from the restaurant. Food was top class and good sized portions. Staff were always ready to help. Will definitely stay again.
The views were fantastic. Food was delicious. Loved being able to watch the birds at breakfast and look over the lake. Room was spacious with lovely shower (I was staying in the newer part).
Location, food, staff, room, all brilliant.Views from room and particularly restaurant were great, and the fantastic bird life viewed from restaurant windows a huge bonus. Will definitely return.
Very nice country style hotel on the edge of one of the lakes about 10Kms south of Keswick. Very nice staff, meals and breakfast reasonable for a small hotel. Very quiet, and comfortable.
The whole package, everybody is friendly, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, you have the scenery, the comfort, good food, happy smiling faces and I couldn't improve on anything.
everything! especially the red squirrel at the bird table at breakfast. My elderly mum who is partially sighted was thrilled that the bird tables were close enough for even her eyes.
(i) the stunning location
(ii)the friendly staff - pleasant, friendly and helpful - and not pedantic.
(iii) good breakfast - with many birds to watch outside the dining room window.
The location.
Hotel facilities were of a high standard, we stayed in the new extension.
The food was good value, not expensive, suited to the type of holiday Lake District offers.
Staff were really friendly and helpful.
It was really quiet and peaceful.
Great views.
Loved the bird tables and the red squirrel.
Food was super and poached eggs perfect.
Water pressure for the shower was low so occasionally went cold mid shower but that is just a little niggle.
All the food is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait especially if you order a starter and main meal. The main meal will not be cooked until finishing your starter. We overheard a waiter explaining this to someone complaining about the times it took to receive their main meal. However, you're on holiday relax chill out.
Being used to a power mains shower, it was a little disappointing to find an electric controlled dripple shower. Not very invigorating if you have been fell walking all day.
.
Could not find anything to fault this hotel.
We had trouble with the door (hard to open) but this is a very minor issue.
That we had to leave when we did !.
We found nothing to dislike at all from the staff, the food or the room.
All it missed for me was real chips they would have gone down a treat other than that I couldn't find a thing wrong with anything at all.
Nothing.
Nothing.
having to leave and come back home.
The fact that we could only stay a few days and that it was so cold outside,so have to return to see some sunshine.
Getting up early for breakfast which finished at 0900 - we were on holiday!!
Room was a bit small with just a shower (but a great view).
I know this sounds petty but breakfast is served only between 8/9 am
even at weekends, which is a very narrow window indeed.Serving upto
10.00am would have been nice at weekends allowing a bit of a lie in.
The wi-fi was only available in the main Hotel Lounge area - and was incredibly slow. Only a couple of spots that had network coverage for my phone.
Just a small quibble but the vegetarian dinner menu lacked imagination.
The grilled goats cheese salad was amazing but the rest of the veggie
food looked identical to that on offer everywhere - some more homemade
options would have been more in keeping with the classy menu. On the
plus side the breakfast was smashing!.
Nothing.
The shower wasn't as hot as I would have preferred and there was no hairdryer in the room (although I could have got one from Reception).
Nothing!.
The main building looks a little "tired" on the outside and needs freshening up.
The dining room can get a little too warm when the sun is strong and not sure there's any air-conditioning.
nothing whatsoever.
Not one thing.
Some rails to hold onto in the large shower would have been helpful.
The only thing that wrong was the Rain!.
Having such a short stay was the main problem ,but it would have been useful to have a shaver point on the bathroom.
The room was comfortable and had all facilities, however the television was very small and only seemed to have seven channels. The bathroom lacked a shelf for putting things on, and the water was extremely hot. (though this was preferable to being cold). The shower over the bath was difficult to get in and out of. Breakfast was from 8 am to 9 am, which is a bit tight when you are on holiday. However a couple coming in at 9:20 were served with no problem.
My only complaint was being woken up at 7 every morning by next doors extractor fan in bathroom that stayed on for 30 minutes and was loud, it woke me and kept me awake. I was in room 34 in new block.
Nothing.
Actually can't think of anything......
Hotel entrance driveway was difficult to see on a dark winters night.
I was on the ground floor and someone parked their car right in front of my french door window so blocked my view and my privacy. The option of a net curtain may have been nice or a no parking area.
Smell from the kitchen in hallway outside room. (Not in the bedroom). Otherwise no issues.
Not a thing!.
the scrambled egg, sorry we'd never had such poorly cooked eggs.
Nothing!.
Nowhere to hang wet coats - no drying room.
