Located in the picturesque Devonshire town of Illfracombe is the Royal Britannia Hotel. Totally refurbished in 2010, the hotel overlooks the harbour and has 2 restaurants and 2 bars, offering cuisine from Northern China, Sunday carvery and bar meals. Former notable guests of the hotel include Lord Admiral Nelson and King Edward VII. Rooms at the Royal Britannia feature TVs and tea/coffee making facilities, whilst some have sea views and spa baths. The large restaurant has exposed wooden beams and serves English and international cuisine. There is a carvery with a range of meat, and a sea-food menu featuring the fresh catch from Illfracombe harbour. There are two bars, serving a wide range of drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Devonshire cream teas are also available for guests to enjoy. The hotel is surrounded by the harbour stunning countryside walks. The golden, sandy beaches of Woolacommbe are a haven for surfers, and are a 10-minute drive away.

Our favourite hotel on our trip.We booked a small room with en suite and it was very comfortable. The location of the hotel was brilliant, right on the harbour. Food was great, people were friendly and a very relaxed attitude. We loved Ilfracombe itself, so much to do and see. Plenty on offer for all types of people. Very family orientated and a great many places to walk and find something to interest most people. Loved it!.

Nothing was too much trouble and even carried our bags up to our room when we said we could manage. Highly recommend paying the extra for a luxury room, the spa bath was fantastic size with plenty of hot water and room for two! Also the huge bed was straight out of fifty shades and really comfy. Friendly staff.They upgraded the room for us which was a pleasant surprise.we had a king size bed which was very confirtable .The breakfast was good too.My wife didn't want baked tomatoes and bacon with her full English breakfast but instead they gave her extra mushrooms ,sausage and hash cake which I thought was very generous.I Would definitely come again. A really lovely location over looking the harbour - couldn't have wished for a better location or view. The hotel is under going refurbishment, but don't let this put you off. Our room was lovely and light with airy and effort had been put into it's decoration. The hotel was excellent value for money and I would definitely stay again. Loved it. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were accommodating and the food was good. The hotel is currently being painted so it is fresh and clean. The location was brilliant, overlooking the harbour and luckily it was a beautiful day and we had breakfast on the terrace overlooking the activity in the harbour. Fantastic location overlooking the harbour. We booked the jacuzzi room and it was very comfortable.. and fun! Great food and drink, free WiFi in the bar and sky sports on big screen. Ask Richard for a discount card if you're staying a few days to save money at the bar.. We were made to feel very welcome, and the Hotel had a lot of character . The shower was amazing !. I travelled with my 10 year old son & dog, and really enjoyed my stay, I did not feel out of sync because we were be ourselves. Would defiantly book again. Nice location. We had stayed at Ilfracombe after a week in a caravan with our grandchildren. It was our anniversary so we ate at a nearby restaurant with a more upmarket menu. For the price the hotel was very good value and staff were very helpful. Ilfracombe is different from many seaside resorts. Excellent cooked breakfast. Nice location near harbour and other eating places although we used only the hotel restaurant for evening meal and needed little else during the day. A wonderful and extremely old hotel right on the quayside of the quintessential English fishing( tourist) village. It's character spoiled by exTernal refurb but ok inside Quiet despite a wedding downstairs. Manager changed the room no problem and upgraded us. They were great and most apologetic My partner went to tell them about the problem and moved us immediately Thanks so much. The hotel is right in the harbour with a place to sit adjacent to the harbour wall with the wonderful view of the sea and hillsbough hill opposite. It was good value for money. Fantastic location and nice room overlooking harbour and hill, cliffs and sea beyond, with table and chairs in bay window to facilitate full enjoyment of the view. 1. Parking was a problem. It was peak season, school holidays so was to be expected. Nothing, the hotel is under going refurbishment but this didn't affect our stay in any way. Refused to honour the advertised £1.99 pints if more than 20 ppl were watching the football. I counted 22 in one bar and lots more in the lounge. Barman said not all were actually "watching" hmm. No mirror in the bedroom, so when you dried your hair or put on make up it was difficult, and maybe a little too noisy staying at the front of the hotel, due to the sandpiper across the way. Public car park(24hrs) was a few hundred yards away. On arrival. We easily parked outside the hotel to unload. A case with wheels was helpful when leaving, as one way exit could involve detour to load up outside hotel. Note 24hours began at 0800 hrs the following day if paid for after 6pm !!!. Parking is a real problem. It's on the quayside around the bay making overnight security and luggage handling an issue, but apart from that it really is worth it for the location. We had a small room that stank of effullent. The mattress had a dip in it which was a bit uncomfortable.It probably needs replacing. They were refurbishing, but this did not get in the way for us in all honesty. In fact we were very impressed with the work they were doing and would definitely go back again to see how they got on. Our room looked onto the the side street and we were disturbed by the customers at the local pub/club until around and after midnight on both nights of our stay. Nothing to dislike. nothing. 7 people in our party, all would have liked cooked breakfast. We required this at 7.30am and could not be accommodated until 8.30! Whose loss?. Nothing really comes to mind. Noise from pub opposite with karoke etc. nothing. Service was not the best but it didn't create a problem, it just meant we spent less time and money in the hotel. n/a. Rooms do need a mirror in the bedrooms. also maybe a fan for the summer months as was very hot!. The room was near the top and very warm with no way of opening the top of the window it was too noisy ouside to keep botto half of window open to ventilate. Lack of car parking space. Breakfast payments Rip Off £6.95 Hotel/pub Price, Charged first night £5.95, in room a notice said if booked through letsbookhotel.com breakfast was £5.00. Makes a real difference when in a group and staying for a few nights!. couldn't open windows. quite noisy in room above the bar. To slow getting breakfast. No real dropping off point and no car parking facilities. Would be better if the bedroom window opened more fully. Generally the whole hotel could do with a good spring clean and refurbish. Bathroom very small and in need of a better quality finish. Parking limited. the bar area, which is where you have breakfast.
