Julie knows Gretna very well from her schooldays and we love Dumfries and the sw Scotland coast so it was an ideal break ,,,, the staff were fantastic friendly helpful etc nothing was a trouble the honeymoon suite was excellent and the deal we got when booking was great until we talked to the peoe staying in the adjacent veranda area who had the their suite for 2 nights b&b for approx £ 10 less If the rumours are true and the hotel is under administration/ receivers then please drop the.
all reviews » Stayed at the Garden House Hotel because we were getting married at Gretna Green. Family and friends also stayed in the hotel. We all found it to be excellent value for money. It was clean and each room was larger than expected. The staff are a credit to the hotel. They were welcoming and keen to help. One staff member had made a wedding cake that was no longer required and kindly offered the cake to our party. The hotel is situated in an excellent location with a retail outlet centre opposit. Friendly staff, hotel was full but very quiet. Alan was lovely. Yes it was budget accommodation but fantastic for the price, we stay away a lot and would stay here again. Ignore the pictures others have posted, you get what you pay for in my opinion. Breakfast was lovely too. We paid 50 for bed and breakfast for one night. Thank you very much see you again .. I liked the location of the hotel ...The only complaint I could make was that the housekeeping side of the hotel was not up to standard i.e. one day our rubbish bin was not emptied and a replacement toilet roll was not left ......the reception staff especially Tracey and John in the dining room were absolutely outstanding ....... Lovely big room with facility to smoke outside the room. Good TV and coffee and tea making facilities. Excellent breakfast. Our three dogs also had a great time with a big field beside the hotel for them to run and play safely. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Will definitely stay there again. Staff welcoming breakfast great two 4 995 deal was great value, managers on duty melanie and alan were both very accomadating we have a dog and found the hotel great. We will defintly be back. I've stayed at this hotel many times before.i stayed here with my 6 year old son.we had a large family room with a lovely view.the staff were very friendly and eager to help.the beds were really comfortable.there was a really great power shower.the breakfast was lovely. Room was nice and big. Staff were friendly and attentive. Lovely gardens. Overall nice and clean for what could be expected for a large hotel. (Some cobwebs in unused corridors). Excellent that there were two double beds in a family room. The food was lovely and also the staff but the best thing was we had a ground floor room with a door opening out to the smoking area very few hotels give this choice to smokers well done we will defo be back and recomend to freinds xxxx. Loved absolutely everything ... Staff are what makes the hotel successful , manager Ian is a keeper for the hotel the passion and energy he had for it to succeed is motivational and inspiring. Booked to go back already in August :). We were allocated a honeymoon suite with a kingsize four poster bed and two z beds for the kids. The room was massive and the kids were very very impressed! The room was very clean! We will definetly stay again, great find!. The staff were very polite and friendly and our meals were very good and value for money.The beer prices were very reasonable and the bar area comfortable to relax in,We would definitely go again if in that area. Our room was a little dated but nice and clean. The restaurant was excellent for dinner and breakfast for both food and service. The location is perfect for motorway access and the grounds are stunning. Very friendly staff and good breakfast. Huge room for small price. Good location for nearby places of interest and shopping. Will use again. the Japanese water garden is a lovely setting for photos of your special occasion. the pool and the choice from the breakfast menu and the location is just perfect for the Gretna gateway shopping area. Lovey hotel and ideal stopover on long journey Staff friendly rooms clean food goodd This was our second stay and will be staying there again when travelling home from vixiting our family in south of. the rooms were very large, warm and comfortable. all the staff were very helpful and friendly and the home cooked food was delicious and very well priced. I would highly recommend this hotel to all. Hotel was very quiet and the room was made warm for our arrival.The hotel room was a really good size and plenty of room to move about.Breakfast was very good.l would definitely stay here again. He was very helpful with my inlaws as their room was not ready when they went in to it. The hotel was excellent value,& room 210 which had a 4 poster bed was excellent. Just an observation as it's aptly named the garden house hotel why not adapt the gardens slightly for the winter months even with lighting and fake ants or something :-). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, however, we felt that the decor could be modernised. Everything was good. The standard of the housekeeping in the bedroom ....... Bathroom could do with the tile grout being cleaned. Needs some refurbishing which would make it into a great hotel!. The hotel could do with a bit of an update. Shame the spa/pool was closed down. No wifi access in rooms. breakfast tables were slow to be cleared and kept clean. The cooked part of the breakfast was less than average, undercooked bacon, greasy eggs, watery mushrooms, sausages I wouldn't feed to a dog and hot drinks were slow to be refilled. Liked everything about this hotel. Nothing not to like !!. Just a couple of small gripes..The Garden has been neglected and was in very poor state and the outside of the buildings look very unkept and tired.The price of wine for the wife was a little over the top but the overall price for our stay was good. Having to leave. Bed and bedding was a bit old and worn but comfortable. No complaints. n/a. Nothing. Hot drinks arrangement at breakfast needs a rethink; coffee only just warm in flask on buffet table. Breakfast cooked food a bit greasy. I have no reason to complain as everything was superb. It's looking a bit tired and could do with some TLC. It was difficult getting service in the bar. Breakfast bacon and sausage were nearly cold, and eggs like rubber. As it was a buffet style breakfast, not really suprising. N/A. Was a little tired and in need of some updating. the bed was a little uncomfy and the plastic sheet crinkly. Also the duvet only just covered us both luckily it was warm on our visit. A little privacy when eating in restaurant from main entrance and people walking passed. Not enough food choice and bit expensive. Would have preferred a more varied menu. Bathrooms need updating as some had missing or broken tiles. Paint work needs refreshing . the lift and having to come home.
