What people say
The breakfast was very tasty with lots of choice. Everything was served to your table which was nice but I actually prefer a buffet where you can choose what you want as you eat. Because everything here was served, you had to order your drink, cold starter and hot breakfast all at the same time. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. We actually chose this hotel because of the standard of room, location and price NOT for the butler service. We were a little worried that butlers wou. all reviews »
This hotel (the Howard) is really very nice. The bathrooms were fabulous
I have never seen a bathroom as nice. My husband loved the shower. The
staff were really nice, friendly and very helpful and the butlers well
they could not do enough for you. There were no tea making facilities in
the room however you just had to request a drink and the butlers brought
a freshly made drink to your room, all complimentary and all very
lovely. We ate in the hotel restaurant and it was very nice. During my
s.
Impeccable, polite friendly attentive staff ,who show and explain all facilities/services available. Pot of tea made and served upon arrival, while bags are taken to your room and unpacked for you if you wish. Advice on where I could go to eat and drink locally as a single female and be safe and booking made by staff for me.I have visited Edinburgh many times, staying at different hotels, the last twice at the Howard and myself and my husband will continue to return there whenever we stay in Edi.
Butler service is extremely helpful and highly professional -e.g. Gents helped me to arrange a car at a very short notice and very reasonable price. The hotel itselfvis located near the city centre, but on the quite street, in a nice victorian building. Main streets, restaurants, shopping malls are in short walking distance. Wonderful restaurant. Very convenient and cosy bed. Good selection of whiskies that can be srviced at any time of a day or night.
The totally quiet hotel. Comfortable bedroom especially the bed, large walk in wardrobe with ample space for hanging clothes, huge bathroom with everything you could wish for plus a fabulous view over the Forth. A personal butler to do our ironing and serve breakfast in the room. traditional furnishings making us feel very comfortable, relaxed and also homely but in luxury.
Our suite was very comfortable, spotless and quiet even though it fronted on to Great King Street. The ability to park the car at the rear of the hotel is a big plus. With the exception of one member of staff, we found the hotel staff extremely courteous. Did not use the butler service this visit but had done on a previous visit and found it excellent.
Everything was wonderful! From having the car parked when we arrived to
having the bags taken and packed in the boot as we left. Fabulous caring
friendly service, nothing seemed too much trouble. Wonderful food,
superb bedroom with dressing room and outstanding bathroom with slippers
and bathrobes. We loved every moment!.
Excellent staff, very friendly and service minded. Nothing was a bother. Room was lovely and very clean and with a nice decor. Breakfast was superb. The room service brilliant. This discrete and extremely comfortable hotel is our new favourite place to stay in Edinburgh.
Personal service was impeccable Facility was beautiful. Accommodations were lovely. Breakfast each morning was fantastic. Complimentary pots of tea or french press coffee were available for personal delivery to guests round the clock. It was fabulous!!!!.
The luxury. Butler greets you on arrival, takes your car keys, unlads and parks car, whilst you sit and relax with a tea or coffee. Butlers available 24/7 and will do anything you require them to do. Bed comfy, water warm all the time. Breakfast - devine.
The personal service was without question unprecedented, there was nothing too much trouble for the staff. Breakfast served in our room was an unforgettable experience in no way could it simply be described as room service.
I enjoyed my stay at the Howard and I thought the staff were very friendly and helpful and also the butler service is second to none. The decor is quite glam throughout the hotel with each room having its own character.
The Howard Staff had everything down to perfection! Everything was presented to an excellent standard.
The Restaurant staff, Butlers and Receptionists all made our stay feel special and we were very much looked after.
Clean, Quiet, friendly. We didn't want for anything during our stay, you hardly see anyone whilst walking around the Howard, but as soon as you need anythingyou just pick up your phone and it's there in an instant.
A most comfortable stay. The staff was superb. Helpful with every
requirement. Room was ideal, well decorated and comfortable. And the
free overseas phone calls a real plus. Keep this. Would definitely
recommend.
Staff excellent, attentive but not too intrusive, tea and coffee sent to
your room or in the lounge at anytime of the day at no extra charge,
lovely breakfasts. Bathroom was brilliant very luxurious great stay.
Excellent service - the butler service is very good. The food, breakfast is first class and we had the Taster Menu in the evening which was of a very high standard, definitely recommend it.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and, for the most part, highly professional.
Food very good and room very, very comfortable with all my needs met. Housekeeping staff very kind.
Very good location, quiet but very near the city center, a very (luxury)
British experience, which was exactly what I was looking for! The suites
are huge, and beautiful!.
The lovely big bathroom and the bath itself. Room service excellent; the breakfast was delicious. Very well presented. So good we had it in the room every day!.
this is our second visit to the Howard and always try to stay here if we can, when we come to Edinburgh. The staff are always attentive and make you very welcome.
The staff were excellent and wanted to engage with you to make sure that your stay was as expected and you were a valued guest. They could not do enough for us.
I loved the location, the service from the staff, the rooms and they way the hotel made you feel welcome. You never feel like anything is too much .

Excellent service and very friendly staff, very cosy and comfortable rooms, great location, will definitely return.
Excellent service, warm welcome from the manager Andrew. Upgraded to very nice room. Overall relaxing weekend.
Lovely stay, meticulous service, great restaurant, close to city center while far enough not to be noisy.
The welcome and subsequent ambiance, with staff a delight, huge bed, great bathroom, good and varied grub.
loved the excellent staff and the luxury of our suit having been upgraded with it been our honeymoon. .
Everything , was a very enjoyable stay and nothing was too much bother.
Food was also excellent !.
The location was good. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent.
Excellent staff, amazing bathroom, comfortable beds and luxurious
breakfast.
Quiet but central location. Comfortable accommodation
Good beverage service.
Excellent service and gourmet food in a particularly comfortable hotel.
The room and service was first class. The staff where very helpful.
It has a wonderful atmosphere. Old style Edinburgh at its best.
The friendly staff and the general great ambience of the hotel.
How traditional the hotel and the services of the hotel was.
good service, convenient location, historical atmosphere.
staff - nothing too much trouble
value - luxurious.
great atmosphere, lovely building, good value.
room and staff very friendly breakfast good.
The staff, comfort and the breakfast.
sumptuous room with lots of space.
Excellent services in all aspects.
super staff.
Atmosphere.
We stayed in Ravelston (room 209) which was a lovely room but had very annoying floorboards right the way across the whole bedroom so every time we moved the floor squeaked! I'm all for authentic, Georgian architecture but don't want authentic floorboards to go with it!
We didn't like the fact that we had to call a butler for a hot drink. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels and would always prefer my own drinks tray in a room - I certainly wouldn't expect somebody to make one for me!.
There was nothing negative at all. I have tried to think of something
negative but I am unable to.
There were no safe lockbox in my room.
The evening meal on Sunday wasn't up to the standard I expected. The lighting was strange with dim electric lighting and candles but with the curtains open allowing in the awful yellow street lighting. Such a shame because lunch in the drawing room at noon was superb.
Whilst breakfast was good, it was a slight disappointment in that the 'seasonal fruit' was not home grown. Prior to coming to Edinburgh, we had had 4 nights at a B&B in St Andrews where lots of locally grown fruit was available so to only have imported fruit seemed to us to be somewhat odd. One member of staff seemed to have an unnecessarily abrupt manner and seemed to forget that he was there to serve us, rather than the other way round.
We couldn't stay longer!.
Only stayed 3 days, wanted to stay longer.
There was nothing about the hotel that we didn't like.
It claims to be a five star but really a 4.5 and the old girls looking a bit tired and needs a bit tender loving care.
I don't think there was anything I didn't like.
It's a personal preference thing really, we just don;t do Feather Pillows.
Took along time to get hot water and then not much of it. WiFI spotty
and somewhat eradic.
Room was a little bit tired looking and a bit dusty under furniture but
would still go again.
Nothing!.
The "for the most part" refers to one of the staff who couldn't keep his shirttail tucked in and, with everyone else looking so immaculate, he let you down slightly.
The Butler service should be a bit more "clean" and
professional, considering it's a 5 star hotel.
There was a large crack down th side of the cistern, which looked unsightly. Also, when you sit on the chair in the bathroom, you see this awful brown stain under the rim of the toilet. Sorry, but it was a bit off putting.
Not a lot to say apart from attention to detail on curtain hooks as it spoils the look of lovely bathrooms etc.
Nothing not to like in this hotel.
What's not to like ?.
Noise of traffic on cobbles at the front
The steep hills walking up to Princes Street.
Nothing.
Very pricey.
Slightly old-fashioned.
The decor is a little tired and a bit on the shabbychic side.
Very old carpet for such a nice hotel. I would expect higher standards
for a 5 star hotel
The rest was perfect, I would definitely recommend.
Nothing to dislike.
Don't ask for recommendations where to eat. We ended up at the worst Edinburgh restaurant. The room was too hot.
Can't think of a single thing I did not like.
the hairdrying was not easy.
nothing really, though decor a little tired.
i had to struggle into the hotel, unassisted, from the taxi with my luggage.
No reading lights in the bedroom.
nothing to complain about.

Alternatively, you can dine in the comfort of your own room. Select your meal from the à la carte menu and dinner will be served to you by your dedicated butler. Room service is available 24 hours a day.
A range of options are available for breakfast, including a full traditional cooked Scottish breakfast, as well as a range of lighter options. For a little luxury and some well-deserved pampering, you can even choose breakfast in bed.
