Less than a mile from the M74, the Ecclefechan Hotel nestles in a country village. The Grade C Listed building offers modern facilities, including free Wi-Fi, in a traditional setting.
A family-run business, the Ecclefechan Hotel has en suite rooms and free parking. The bar features classic entertainments such as billiards.
Ecclefechan is just 10 km from Lockerbie and 25 km from Dumfries. Close to the motorway, there is easy access to activities across Dumfriesshire including golfing, shooting, fishing and cycling.
Ecclefechan itself is home to a Roman fort and social historian Thomas Carlyle’s birthplace, now a museum.

On first name terms with the owner from the time we entered the hotel, we knew this was going to be a positive experience. Unless you like soulless antiseptic surroundings and obsequious staff whose names you only know from their badges then this is the place for you. We were cycling on the route from Glasgow to Carlisle and only stayed one night but if you want to spend a week or more in a friendly and homely, family run hotel and enjoy golf, fishing, cycling, walking or just relaxing in a bar. all reviews »
Arrived later than expected after the kitchen had closed - no problem though as Stephen made me a meal. Didn't mention that I would like a room with a bath again no problem and room changed. One of the reasons I booked here was the comments from another reviewer and I am so glad I did - a lovely time just relaxing with ideas of places that may be of interest given by Joe and the locals even to the extent of one local saying she would drive me there if I didn't have a car.
Amazingly warm welcome from Proprietor and staff.A Great place where you
are looked after by Joseph and Mary, but there is no question of there
being no room at the Inn. Bedrooms excellent.Even an impromptu cabaret
from Joe, all helped to make our stay extremely enjoyable. Bar meals but
good value for money.Would I go again ?., yes yes.
"Never judge a book by its cover" that's what Ecclefechan Hotel made me think of. The reception desk is a bit "rusty" and so the first impression is not the best but it stop there because the owners are amazingly friendly, welcoming and helpful. The bedrooms are all new, very confortable and extremely clean. Breakfast very good.
We were made to feel extremely welcome and our large dog was spoilt by the owners. The meal was very good indeed and excellent value for money. The room was modern, well equipped and clean. Although the hotel is being updated, renovations did not disturb our visit whatsoever, In a word - great value.
A very warm welcome from Joe and his family, good home cooking and very clean & modern rooms. We really enjoyed our holiday there and they are a wonderful family. Plenty of things to do and see in the area and we would recommend the hotel to everyone.
The hosts always make you welcome and go out of there way to accommodate you in any way. The kitchen was closed when we arrived because we had been stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours however they made us some sandwiches. Excellent service.

At the moment they are in the middle if total refurb, which is looking great. But still the welcome, comfort and food make all that disappear. Joe is a star!.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was ideally placed for going off into the countryside.

Warm welcome.7.
That we only had one night to enjoy the hospitality.
The ebarrassment of forgetting to leave the key when I left or was it so I had an excuse to go again !!!!.
Nothing to criticise but the quicker the refurbishing can be completed
the better ..
The position is good if you're travelling because it's close to the motorway but Ecclefechan and the surrounding area hasn't got much to offer and as in other places in Scotland after 8.55PM finding a place to eat it's a real treasure quest. None of the above can be faulted to the hotel.
There was nothing we didn't like and really enjoyed everything we did.
we couldn't stay longer .
Nothing.
The Hotel is currently under renovation so the initial impression was off putting. However the room was newly completed and excellent.
nothing.
Food although not expensive could have been better. Would have preferred to pay more for better quality. Breakfast however was very good.
Being in the midst of a renovation, you need to turn a blind eye to the stair and hall, but the room was so wonderful we didn't care.
Nothing.
Nothing.
There is nothing negative that I have to say.
Refurbishment going on, so understandingly a bit scruffy in parts.
I have no negative comments at all.
Hotel undergoing some renovation.
bathroom could have done with a curtain to the window.
entry hallway and stairs need upgrading but we were told this is happening.
