What people say
Comfortable and full of old world character with modern facilities. Cromwell room is at rear of property where the neighbours are very quiet. Limited 2 hour parking outside but plenty of long-stay only a pleasant 5 minute walk away.CJs underneath where breakfast is served had a great atmosphere. Manager Josh and staff were friendly and helpful. If you're "picky" I'd suggest you find a national chain hotel and leave this for those who enjoy something a little different. all reviews »
We arrived early to the surprise of the staff they handled this well to everyone's satisfaction. All the staff were helpful and attentive, the bar area is full of imaginative art, a passion of mine so a real delight to see.
The breakfast was wonderful and really set us up for a long journey home.
As we have family in the area we will be going back for other stays, especially as we will be able to take our two small dogs the next time.
We can't wait.
This accommodation and facilities suited us perfectly as we were on route from the Airport to the South Coast. The location was ideal and during the short overnight stay we explored the town and surroundings. At the conclusion of our stay the late morning breakfast was perfect. On a similar trip we would repeat this visit to the Gothic House.
Really friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner in CJs downstairs and loved the feel of the place which was lively and fun. We enjoyed a great dinner and cooked breakfast. Make sure you visit the terrace if the weather is good.
Lovely bedroom and big bathroom - we stayed in the Sackville Room.
Thanks for making us so welcome.
Friendly helpful and attentive staff, particularly Josh and CJ restaurant staff. Quality of the food in CJs, the evening meal and breakfast were really superb. Room was clean, tidy and had all facilities.Location in town was good and character of the house was interesting.
Lovely room & decor. Dog friendly in the room and downstairs in the cafe/bar...which meant we had somewhere nice to eat in the evenings with our dog. Easy to walk to The Forrest Way old railway track and walk to Forrest Row for a pub lunch & back again.
It is a very small hotel, three rooms, so it is very personalized. The rooms are exquisite, the beds are VERY comfortable, the included breakfast is plentiful and well cooked, their restaurant/bar has a very good atmosphere and is very popular with the locals.
The staff and accommodation were great. It was very hot when I arrived and there's no fans or lifts but it was very nice.
I didn't really see East Grinstead as I was there for a meeting and went immediately afterwards, it looked very pleasant.
we stayed one night in gothic house we arrived early but let into our room straight away the staff and owners were very helpful and friendly, breakfast the next morning was lovely and plentiful well done to all for a lovely stay.
Lovely location, superb atmosphere, nice room. Management & serving
staff were excellent. Apart from the negatives (on rhs) which could be
easily cured. If that was to happen would have no qualms but to give it
10/10.
Very friendly and helpful staff who created a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food. Very very comfortable beds in a lovely room. Key to a seperate entrance so no worry about the time when out for the evening. Just lovely.
The proximity of the rooms to the cafe-bar made eating-in an interesting option - wide range of options and well presented. The staff were friendly and the room comfortable, especially the bed. I'd certainly stay again.
Staff were all young and sociable, polite, attentive, efficient.
Super building in a town centre location
Great bar and terrace for food and drinks.
Character of the building and rooms.
Very good value.
I love the quirkiness of the place and the staff are really friendly. Will definitely stay again. Was our second stay here anyway and we loved it as much as the first time.
Once again Gothic Huse looked after us very well. We will continue to stay with them when business takes us to East Grinstead. Excellent as always - thank you!.
Room was lovely, very luxurious. Good location near the train station. Friendly staff and was helpful to leave our bags in the room after check out time.
The small double room was tastefully furnished and we liked the idea of
being able to enter and exit the premises without walking past a
reception area.
I went to there for a wedding held at Gravetye Manor. This is the town has railway station. The house is quiet, neat, easy to find.
Nice rooms & comfortable beds. Nice English Breakfasts & bar/restaurant especially the terrace facing rear. Good value.
The room decor. Location within the town. Outside decking area overlooking the churchyard. Friendly and helpful staff.
A dog friendly B&B with apopular cafe/bar attached. Clean accommodation, and all with an extremely helpful staff.

Friendly staff and comfortable beds.
Friendly, cosy, easy to find!!.
nice room, view, bed, bathroom.
The breakfast and atmosphere.
Lots of places to eat.
Location, cosiness.
Excellent service.
Great breakfast
Good location
friendly welcome.
There was a bit of noise from the pub over the road which wouldn't be great if you were after an early night but it didn't bother us.
Room was a little cold, and the plumbing needed attention, toilet wouldnt flush properly.
The cafe/bar was a bit noisy downstairs, but it didn't really bother us...it may bother someone else?
No free parking, but we managed to park only 5 minutes away.
Due to its location, they do not have their own private parking so, while it is not hard to get a place to park, it is not ideal to have be concerned about dealing with it. However, this is not a big enough situation to allow it to counter staying there.
The parking situation. There is no car park, which I overlooked. I have slight mobility problems at the moment so if I hadn't got the car space 5 mins away I would have found it very hard to walk from the town car park with my luggage.
The cleaning staff did not do their jobs thoroughly enough. We were left
with un-emptied litter bin, tea/coffee etc were not re-filled.My
wife had made the beds up, so everything else was left. For a 4 night
stay more drawer space would be appreciated.
Nothing negative to say.
If you like an early night or are a light sleeper be prepared to use earplugs until the cafe-bar beneath the rooms closes. Parking is on-street with restrictions during the trading day, which might be a problem depending on when you stay.
Slightly cold first night there but not a real problem.
Butter on the bacon sandwiches!.
Bar was noisy till midnight, right underneath the room not much you can do about that but maybe make it clearer on the website that its over a late night bar?.
Our only gripe is that breakfast is served in the 'pub area' and
whilst we were taking it, the cleaner was cleaning the floor of the pub
and the smells of both the vacuum cleaner and the disinfectant were most
disagreeable, as we ate.
Limited parking & noise on High Street side.
Difficult to find free parking anywhere nearby.
Pay and display car parking is a few hundred yards away and adds to cost of stay.
Beer garden next to room. People sitting directly outside window.
No parking and shower a little small.
The television was described as a flat screen tv but it wasn't.
Not much really. Bed was a bit too soft for me, but most people would like that!.
I was surprised when I was asked to pay when I was checking in. Also payment could only possible by credit card, I would have to pay cash.
the only problem we had was the kettle was dirty the wire was hanging out and there was a problem with the lid so the steam came out of the handle and burnt you. I gave this to reception on leaving and they apologised and said the would be replacing it.
Very noisy evening and night time, draught bitter not kept well.
Shower was not very powerful .
Difficult to park near the hotel.
slightly creaky bed!.
the lack of tidiness.
Could with some draw space.
Twin room needs a power shower! Just a trickle comes out.
The staff did not turn up to do breakfast.
flasks not well cleaned, hand basin partially clogged.
No parking at hotel, no offer of juice with breakfast.
The weather!.
quite small rooms
could be noisy as on a main road and above a bar.
