Friendly, helpful staff and excellent value for money. The Hotel was very comfortable, within easy walking distance from the ferry port and shops. The staff were some of the friendliest I have met in my many years of travelling and were always willing to go that extra mile.the room and hotel were clean and welcoming, the staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent.

Almost useless. Wireless internet access not available in my room. After complaining I was moved to another room where it worked well.The INternet service was flakey - as a business user internet access isimportant to me. The only point that we can make is that, on the one occasion that we hadan evening meal within the hotel. We were brought the incorrect dishes.This was rectified quickly.During the stay we needed to be able to work and chose this Hotel as theinformation stated that there was internet access throughout the Hotel,however our room was one which was unusable - next time we will ensure agood room. Also there was enormous machinery noise from the kitchens?Could have been cooling systems or something, again I would check outthe room with reception next time. The artex walls to corridors. The lack of parking was the only problem. no, it was fine...bedrooms got very very due to the sunshine...so no real issues. Light coloured curtains let in the sun very early. Only the internal decor ( slighly dated ) - only a minor ponit!. Width of the double? Bed. decor in halls and bathroom fitments need updating but bearable. I did not like the large and overflowing Skip otside the main entrance. It gave a very poor first impression. bathroom. Car parking was unavaiable and the actual hotel was quite hard to find. The rooms were very cold. Could not sleep during the night.Badly fitted windows were drafty. More blankets and heating for a longer period would have helped. ( Both rooms). The draught beer could have been colder and better kept. The hotel had a lot of dated decor and was a bit old fashioned for theprice although the room was much more modern. The food in therestaurant, particularly breakfast, was of fairly low quality and thehouse white was pretty rough! Also a 70s classical orchestral pop cd wasplayed incessantly at dinner and breakfast, which did the datedatmosphere no favours.Hotel interior quite dated and could do with some work on apperance. Artificial tree right on a very tight corner where you need to go down the stairs (very odd position) . All a bit run down. You could hear every movement from the room above. A shortage of little touches: plastic glasses which were not replaced when used; only one room had tissues; Our biggest complaint was the food. Very very ordinary and some quite poor. A meat pie with a crust too hard to break and burnt gravy down the side; All food was mediocre although sandwiches from the bar were fine.Whirlpool bath did not work.

Travelling information

The Ascot Hotel is situated on Empire Terrace, 50 yards from the Douglas sea front and promenade, a mile from the Town Centre.

From Ferry Terminal: Driving along the promenade away from the ferry terminal, pass through the traffic lights at the Villa Marina, continue on for roughly a quarter of a mile and turn left into Empress Drive. As you pass into Empress Drive, the road swings to the right and you find the Ascot Hotel 200 yards on the left hand side.

From Airport: Follow the signs to Douglas from the Airport (9 miles approximately) and on reaching the Quarterbridge Pub and a series of roundabouts, bear right onto Peel Road. On passing the Fire Station, keep in the right hand lane, and keep on Peel Road until you reach the ferry terminal. Then follow the directions from the sea terminal.
