I want to give a special thanks to the fellow who took me on a tour of the castle and made it possible for me to take pictures from the turret. I am visiting your country with my husband who is here with a company from Iowa, called Musco. They travel all over England lighting up cricket matches and I was able to get some wonderful pictures of the cricket field with the Musco lights. Thank you!.
all reviews » A true castle experience! Our room was impeccably appointed with thedecor very much in tune with a true castle. Public areas (reception,restaurant, halls) also very well decorated. The proprietors have done awonderful job in preserving the style of this centuries' old castle.Excellent breakfast and attentive service. What a wonderful place tostay when in the Northwest of England! Bravo!. Pleasant staff and great service. Some of that declined a little as time went on. .eg no salt and pepper on room service trays and reception charging me 6 pounds over what I should have paid because I paid my bill in two lots and the second receptionist read a credit as part of my billl... small but annoying thing I didn't realise til I 'd left the location. Extreme value for money - lovely room at travel lodge prices (on the off peak deal). If we can get the deal again we will use this hotel again.The relaxed atmosphere of the location and the 'can do' attitude of the staff, no request was too much trouble. Excellent Lumley Castle offers something completely different from the run of the mill hotel chain venue.All of it, the location, standard of accommodation, staff, atmosphere; an all round goos experience. Steep stairs to turrets... no lift. to them..not enough guidance initially as to how to get around the buildings/ find room etc. No meals included and high prices on same. external lighting was poor on way to room which was through a courtyard and it was very dark, especially on way back to main hotel for evening meal as I had stilettos on!. No. The room service meal was unbelievably small; chicken curry for £12 plus and it was about the size of a starter, less than half what we were expecting (we're not even big eaters!). service a little slow. Room service sandwiches were a bit light on filling and lettuce in saladgarnish was a bit wilted/dated.Courtyard room was miserable. We asked to move and they were very nice to give us a castle room. The annex new courtyard rooms were just normal hotel rooms, not really staying in a castle! This should be highlighted when booking, we weren't aware of it until we arrived, did not know what "courtyard" room meant. Couldn't reach the wardrobe which was an alcove behind a cahir. Having to walk outside to get to breakfast - but it is a 13th century castle, so not really a complaint, not a lot they can do about it. R4estaurant staff seemed to loose interest in service towards the end of the evening, and food could have been better but the experience of the surroundings made up for all of this.There is no desk space for work in the castle rooms. The rather over-powering music in the restaurant.The noisy hot water system!. Bed in room number 25 (stable block) was like sleeping on concrete.As a minor detail, poor lighting in rooms. Bedrooms were too hot. My brother's room was unvbearable, with heating pipes on two walls. The staff did find him another room, but even that (and mine) were hot.Beds and sheeting was a bit old. The rooms were a bit dark, the costumes the staff wear weren't really my scene. to our disappointmient and disgust, we discovered when we arrived that we could not go to any bars or restaurants in the hotel after 6 pm, because we did not have formal attire with us. when we asked for help, we were told to use room service. nowhere on the booking information was there specifications to bring formal dress for the evening. we spent the two nights stuck in our room or looking for. On arrival there were no tables available in the resturant, the hotel do not do bar meals, there are no other resturants within walking distance and so I ordered a room service meal. When the meal was delivered I was asked to sign an overcharged receipt. There was no table in the room other than the TV table to eat the meal off and when I carried the TV off the table it fell apart.yes, overall cleanliness, i found a spider crawiling the bed. The hotel had no record of our booking - the receptionist was not friendly or helpful.We have sent a written complaint to the hotel and have had a satisfactory reply from the manager - who has offered us personal service next time we go there.The Cortyard rooms are small and have low ceilings with sloping roof. The shower not suitable for tall people.Lighting very dark throughout hotel.
