The owners have established something fresh and exciting at The Cranleigh. The atmosphere is friendly and informal, while the accommodation has all the cutting edge style of an expensive boutique hotel. The lounge is classic style, with open fire place, leather furniture and mellow decor; a great place to relax with a glass of wine, champagne or one of the local ales. Hearty breakfasts are served in equally stylish surroundings. Bedrooms are simply stunning and totally contemporary, each with an individual style from a professional interior designer. All have luxurious goose-down duvets and fine cotton sheets, iPod docking stations, large screen TVs, DVD players (with free access to a large collection) and free WiFi access. The fully tiled en suite bathrooms have designer fittings by Villeroy Boch, heated floors, mood lighting, dual-fuel towel rails, spacious shower enclosures and bathrobes. Those with air spa baths have a mirrored TV at the end of the bath for utter indulgence. As a bonus, guests have a free spa pass to use leisure facilities, located just a 2-minute walk away. Free parking is available. Please note that the hotel is non-smoking throughout and is unsuitable for children.

The staff were very helpful at all times and very nice pleasant people to be in the company of over Christmas. The room was lovely and very clean, and beautifully decorated. On arrival we had chocolates and a small gift as we were shown our room, which was a special touch for us both. The breakfast was perfect, and just the right size too. We will definately visit The Cranleigh again!. The location of the Cranleigh is really good, the rooms where all really nice especially the deluxe suite that we stayed in and the bath was absolutely superb and made me totally relaxed! The breakfast was really nice and the views from the rooms was brilliant! I would recommend the Cranleigh to everyone and I'm looking to book stay for my Mum for Mothers Day!.
all reviews » The location of the hotel is great! Right in the centre of WIndermere close to shops, bars and restaurants. The staff were very knowledgable about the area and happy to help with any enquiries. Breakfast is fantastic as is the decor of the hotel. I will be staying here again!. My friend had to pay for an up grade which was reduced from £20 to £10 but i wasn't happy with the fact that i had originally booked en suite for all of us. We were told it was because they no longer did standard rooms and we had been fortunate to be up graded. car parking just adequate. lovely hotel and room but we thought the room was a little on the small side for a superior room more like a standard size. Not really. The bed was uncomfortable but I guess that's a personal thing. the breakfast selection could have been more varied and there was only a one hour time to eat, this could be widened.The Guest House is split into two buildings, there is no connectingpassage, therefore guests staying in the annex have to go out into thestreet and next door for breakfast. We expected a room with a bath and shower as is portrayed on the website however the shower was acceptable. It's a shame, considering the recent refurb, that the rooms are only furnished with dial up internet connection rather than wireless which is expected these days. I feel that it would be beneficial to consider including some further information packs into the bedrooms eg) fire and emergencies.

Travelling information

By Car (from the South and East):
- On the M6 turn off at junction 36 and take the A591 towards Windermere.
At the large roundabout take the 1st left, B5284 signposted Hawkshead via Ferry and Crook.
- Travel along this road for 6 miles, past Windermere Golf Club on the left to the junction of A5074.
- At staggered crossroad turn right. The Cranleigh is 500 yards away on the left hand side.

Directions from Scotland and the North East:
- On the M6 turn off at junction 40 and take the A66 towards Keswick.
- Take either A592 via Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass to Windermere, or continue along A66 to Threlkeld and turn left through St. Johns in the Vale to Windermere on the A591 via Grasmere and Ambleside.
- At the junction of the A591 and A592 head south to Bowness Bay.
- On entering Bowness you will see Costa Coffee on your right, turn left onto Kendal Road. The Cranleigh is 200 yards away on the right hand side.

By Rail:
- The nearest railway station is Windermere, 2.5 miles from the hotel. The main West Coast line station is Oxenholme which is 10 miles from the hotel.
- There is a National Express coach stop at Windermere Station.
- Taxis can be arranged from any of the stations or airports at an additional charge and booked via the hotel.
